Group Forum: how many extra calories do you need to eat while bf?

I'm trying to figure out how many calories I should be eating in addition to the calories the fat secret calculator figured. what have y'all done? I've been looking other places and I can't find a number it a bf calorie calculator that works with fat secret.

I have been nursing for 15 months and I eat 1400 calories a day, all healthy calories, but when your first breastfeeding should eat atleast 1900 and still be able to lose weight. just make sure healthy diet.

my baby is 7 months old now. i ve benn breastfeeding. i noticed that when i take 1500 calories per day all i achieve is maintaining my weight! but with less than 1500 i m too hungry..1200 calories are too few for a breastfeeding mum, not?

yea 1200 is cutting it close, i would stick with the 1500 maybe even 1400, and do home workout like squats, jump jacks, crunches everynight and eat healthy most important thing you can do to lose weight! You want to make sure your milk giving little one full of nutrients so take prenatal s still and give them their vitamin D supplement. My son is old enough does not nurse alot but under one year old make sure your are eating enough for them, after that you can focus more on cutting weight.

I suffer from supply issues though so I'm erring on the higher side of the calorie range for loosing b/c I can't afford for my supply to dip any further.

I've read that at 1800 calories an EBFing mother (before solid introduction) should be ideal for a slow weight loss. Once solids are well established u need to reduce more.

I'd add about 300kcal- 500kcal if your EBFing. If your baby's between 7-12 months maybe closer to the 300kcal. Nursing an older baby I'd only add 100-200 depending on frequency and duration of nursing.

Not everyone can lose weight while breastfeeding and still keep up a milk supply. Talk to your healthcare provider for the answer to this question.
