Has anyone else experienced issues with their tongue? I started having a black line in the center and a brownish hue all over it over the last week or so. I looked up information and think it is black hairy tongue. It can develop from poor dental hygiene, which is not the case for me as I faithfully brush, tongue scrap and waterpik. Anyway, I managed to clear it up for the most part by using a salt/baking soda rinse 2x daily. I use tongue scraper and notice that there is an abundance of thick white material that has collected, especially overnight. I am going to try to drink more water and see if that helps. I am wondering if there is a keto connection or if it is my body's way of detoxing due to no longer eating sugar/processed foods. Does anyone else on keto have similar issues?

I have a great relationship with my dentist. I developed thrush (oral candidiasis) and my MD's remedies were not cutting it. OTOH, my dentist is oriented toward overall dental health and he told me to come in for an exam. He prescribed medication that cleared it up.

My advice: Don't try to diagnose/treat yourself. Even if you need to go to a free dental clinic, have a professional check things out.

"Black hairy tongue" can have many causes. WebMD's article agrees: see a professional.

Hi Miraculum,
Good advice, I need to make an appointment for a cleaning in June. I have been using listerine and tongue brushing and it is a bit better, no black now, just white stuff. I read that this has a keto connection and wondered if anyone else has had it. I love doing keto, feeling great, losing weight, mentally sharper, and cholesterol numbers better than ever! How are you doing? Do you do keto too?

Keto is known for affecting breath (most fat lost is thru breathing rather than body waste), but I don't think I've ever heard of black or white on tongue.
I agree, time to visit Dentist.
Don't ait till June.
