skinnymom's top tips

1.The Good Fats of Life: You've probably heard and read plenty about the dangers of fats (or lipids) over the years. But all that fat talk can sometimes get a little confusing when dietitians and doctors start talking about the good and the bad of fats. Belly Banish Foods are rich in 'good fat' monounsaturated fats and are encouraged with portion control.
2.An important step in this diet is becoming a savvy supermarket shopper. Learning to choose healthy foods over bad ones, stocking your pantry with good choices rather than tempting no-no foods will make it much easier to be successful.
3.Belly Banish Diet Power Ingredient: “Swap and Shop” means you'll be substituting fresh, whole foods for processed, packaged eats. You'll steer your shopping cart away from a high calorie, nutritionally deficient foods and turn in the direction of fresh produce, lean meats, protein packed seafood and discover the variety of whole grain foods that will provide you plenty of bulk. Swap out Oversized bagels and Shop for whole grain breads instead
4.Belly Banish Ingredients: You need to be aware of how many calories are in your food so you can make decisions on what to eat. Because fiber is low-calorie and adds bulk to food that will make you feel full, you should then eat foods high in fiber. On the other hand, fat provides the highest number of calories, more than double the number in proteins and carbohydrates. With Americans getting 34 percent of their daily calories from fat, there's no wonder why more than 120 million Americans are overweight. Counting calories means using our calorie counter, reading food labels and learning more about food. And after a while, you'll just know which foods are loaded with calories and which foods contain empty calories that have no nutritional value.
5.You will need the Portion Power ingredient on the The Belly Banish Diet to make sure you don't get too much of a good thing. In other words, eating anything in excess will lead to calorie overload and eventually to body fat. With Portion Power you'll arm yourself with measuring cups, spoons and a kitchen scale. You should be precise in your measuring. But over time, you'll just know food amounts intuitively. The American Dietetic Association offers a few simple ways for you to size up portions: A half cup of cooked vegetables, fruit, cooked rice or pasta appears to be the same size as a tennis ball cut in half. Two to three ounces of cooked lean meat, fish or poultry looks like the size of an audiocassette or personal digital assistant. One cup of raw, leafy vegetables is the size of a tennis ball. Those kind of visual images will really help you to estimate portion sizes on the fly.
6.. But Portion Power goes beyond the home. It empowers you at the restaurant as well. You'll only dine at restaurants that will cater to your requests for not only the amount of the food you want on your dish, but also the way you want your meal prepared. Like counting calories, Portion Power will be second nature.

About / History

At the rate of my carefree calorie consumption, instead of working the graveyard , I'd be in the graveyard years before my time. I felt and looked horrible. My confidence and self-image took a nosedive. No surprise there, I was becoming the Blob!
So, I started looking for a diet. I surfed the 'Net and perused the bookstores. I tried a carb-cutting diet, a mostly low-fat one and others that offered hope. But I wound up yo-yo dieting and became generally dissatisfied and frustrated. I was trick-or-treating for a weight loss plan and mainly got tricked, because I just couldn't hang in with whatever diet I was on. At least I was trying and that's half the battle -- just getting started.
My search for help led me to a dietitian. I contacted Laura Garrett after I came upon her Web site, It offered sensible advice on dieting as well as on overall good health. The eating guidelines were simple and concentrated on low-calorie, high-fiber food. And since she followed her own advice and looked great, I thought I had nothing to lose, except weight of course.
