Try making something that you usually buy

Guidelines:
It doesn't have to be fancy or sophisticated, but try making something from scratch that you usually buy premade. Do you buy jars of spaghetti sauce? Get some tomatoes and make your own. If you buy marinated tofu, get a block of tofu, marinate it in something tasty you've thrown together, then bake it. Maybe it's something that you get at a restaurant and have never tried to make. Whatever it is, try making it yourself.

Check your ingredients and plan a recipe around them

Guidelines:
I never learned how to manage fresh foods-- I buy them, use some, and the rest end up getting thrown out. Check to see what you need to use and then make something using it. Omelets and frittatas are great user-upper recipes.
