Challenge Forum: Alternative to plank and pushups?

Hi, I love this challenge, as I presently do almost zero exercise. However, I did major lower abdominal surgery a few months ago and had complications, so I am not yet cleared to do exercises that will strain the area. However I am cleared to walk, do arm work, mild stretching, etc. I can also do 'chair' squats. Will it be possible to post an alternative to the planks and Push-ups mini challenges? I really want to join in.

I'm afraid any alternative to plank would still strain the area, since the abdominal area is where that particular exercise is intended on strengthening. You can probably do bicep curls and tricep kickbacks. If anyone can think of any others, please add.

You can definitely join the challenge! Smile The point of the challenge is not necessarily what strength you do, but to put a little resistance on all of the muscles (that you can, in your case) with the hope that we can progress with time.

Ask if you can do wall push ups. You stand away from the wall and do a push up. It still helps with your arms and you are using your weight as resistance. I don't think you use abdominal muscles, but check. As you get better stand further away from the wall.

Oh, thank you so much and count me in, C2B! I will ask about that, Jakes mom. A few weeks ago I tried to do some modified push-ups from the knees to support the 22 challenge in memory of war veterans, ended up in major pain and earned a reprimand for exercising without clearance (I had seromas in the surgical area so while the surface is healed the inner layers of muscle are still very fragileSad ).
