Yep...another rollback. :D
This entry is another stream of consciousness ramble...
Yesterday turned into one of those days of a lot of running around, getting stuff done. Rain was forecast, but held off until I got the last of the groceries out of the car. Then the skies opened up and boy, did it rain! Lots of lightening and thunder, and huge raindrops.
I wasn't hungry all day, but I felt the signs of low electrolytes coming on, so I had a protein shake on the way in to work. It's interesting grocery shopping when your appetite is non-existent. LOL! I finally got a little hungry around 7 PM, so I broke the 24+ hour fast with some deli sliced roast beef with horseradish, and a couple of cherry tomatoes from my neighbor's garden. They were so sweet!
More and more, I'm convinced that weight loss (and really, ANY change you want to make) is 90% a head game. You have to get your mind in alignment with what you want before you take any action. I once read that for any success, you must be willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it. You might not have to do all the possible things it could take, but you must be WILLING to do them all. For example, if reaching your goal means possibly having to do 50 things, you may only have to do 5 or 6 before it happens. But, if there is one thing on that list of 50 that you simply can't, or aren't willing, to do, you can bet that's the one thing that will come up, and it will be the one that stops you. Maybe that explains why dieters find the last few pounds are so difficult to drop...are we unwilling to succeed? Or do we simply figure that once we're that close, we can return to 'normal' patterns? Yeah, the ones that made us gain all the weight in the first place...
ANYway....it's Saturday, and the weekend is in full swing. Have a great one, FS friends!

100% agree with the head game, you have to be in right frame of mind and have a long term view of the journey...and not get despondent and beat yourself up because 1 day or week or a couple of weeks looks bad on paper, over the quarter, half year or year is where you should be looking...and you don't have to be perfect every day all day...sometimes life throws curve balls and fast serves, and you just have to deal with it there and then and go with the flow...I think one of the biggest hurdles for many folks is the guilt trip they give themselves cos they fancy a bag of sweeties or a cake or whatever they fancy and then have it and beat em selves up and then over compensate for it by trying to eat lettuce all week...all you need to is accept it as one of them days, get up tomorra and carry on as before...and not go looking for some other magic answer...

I agree with you. Also, for some reason, I actually found this post motivating. I'm off to study. Thanks. xD

I think the battle with the apatite rules all things in the diet universe.

Hi Kes! Sounds like you are doing well. I'm trying to motivate myself to workout more. I have gained a bit so I may be around more. Have a great day!

I think many people give up dieting because they plateau and they believe it's because that's where their body naturally wants to be. It's not, of course. But that is the head game you were speaking of. To lose enough fat to obtain true health (no rolls!), we still have to keep cutting calories. IT IS HARD.

I agree with you Kes. I was very motivated last year, beginning of this year not motivated at all but since my health scare I'm back in the game! Even though my weight seems a bit stuck I'm determined to carry on with my healthy eating - the pounds will follow soon.

Thanks for the kind words, friends! I'm a believer in the Law of Attraction, or the concept of "Thoughts Become Things". I'm hunting down all of my beliefs that prevent me from being the best me..and some some of them are sneaky and deeply ingrained! I use various things to keep me reminded that life is a choice, that health is a choice, and that I have the power to choose anything. The hard part is to go from choosing to believing. @Doobs, sometimes it takes a big wake-up call for us to start choosing. @Misterbee, yes, indeed! @Warren..HI! @Erika, spend more time congratulating yourself on your victories so far, and less time regretting your failures. It goes miles for more victories. @Maine coon, sticking to a plan is one element, for sure, but believing it can happen is bigger. @Nanette..thoughts become things. If you say and think it's hard, it will be. What if it were actually easier than you ever thought it could be? What if the big thing that keeps it from being easy is you believing it has to be hard? What if you could change your belief?

Ms Kes, the whole trick of dieting is to convince oneself that less is best. Sometimes that means being hungry, and the body literally groans and feels dizzy and tells us to stop denying it nutrition. Can we psychologically trick ourselves into believing that hunger is a positive, that it is NOT hard? Anorexics can, but most plateaued people would find it hard to intentionally reduce calories when they feel they've already reduced them to a hunger level. I've read enough posts about cheating that those members can't even say no to dessert, much less a reduced (and potentially hunger-inducing) menu plan.

@Nanette, I took a course back in the 80's, when I quit smoking and gained a bunch of weight. It was called, "Thin Within", and it brought me face to face with a lot of beliefs that are commonly held that are simply erroneous. Hunger, that is the belly growling, is nothing more than a chemical signal from your body. Emotional hunger, on the other hand is your monkey-brain saying, "If I can't get what I want from *this* I know I can get relief from *that*". The first is easily ignored, and it will go away after a while. It will come back, but it's pretty easy to ignore. When your body learns to feed off the stored energy in your fat, it goes away completely. The second is more insidious, in that you sublimate what you really want for what you can take pleasure in, instead. I know, because I was in a loveless marriage for a long time. I'm a sensual person, and there was no sensuality in the marriage. Eating is a sensual experience, and so, I ate. And ate. And got to 235 lbs. I have plateaued on my journey, plenty of times. But I've had this forum, and the wonderful people on it, to reassure me, to make suggestions, and, yes, to kick my butt to help me through them. I've experimented, done research, and ultimately, found things that work FOR ME. I've also learned and re-learned that there is no, "one-size-fits-all" plan. And, ultimately, I've learned from all the other journals (as well as my own) that your head space is the determining factor. Yes, you can tell your body that the hunger signal has been received, and will attend to it later. Body will respond by taking it down, so long as it has the resources on board to continue operating.

You have expressed it clearly and beautifully. Our flesh wants to be in control and it often thinks by rebelling that we will give in. Our minds, however, hold the reins and after a few temper-tantrums by the flesh, the flesh will fall in line. I didn't think I could do intermittent fasting because my body rebelled...and allowed it to affect my blood sugar numbers. But I decided that I was not going to allow my body to rule my head. Took a few attempts and a lot of self-talk and now I can fast with the best. It is people like you that makes the rest of think about our choices deeper than just off the cuff. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom.

You are so right. Your head has to be in the right place to do this. Wish I could explain how I finally got to this place.... but I can't quite figure it out....which is okay, I guess, as long as I can just keep on going.
