kingkeld's Journal, 02 March 2012

It's 3:30 AM. I just finished 45 minutes on the stationary bike. Yup, you guessed it. The King can't sleep.

Today, I don't think there are any worries. I simply feel like I have too much energy to simply lie there and wait to fall asleep again. I'm 100% awake. I still feel constipated, so my stomach hurts a little, and of course that's not motivating for sleep either, but it's not TOO bad. I managed to do a little bit of "#2 action" yesterday, but not as much as I wanted.

When I got up, I weighed myself, but not as a serious weigh-in. I was still in my underwear, wearing glasses, and hadn't had that final visit to the rest room, but I could tell that I will have lost weight today. I just don't know how much yet. Too early to tell. I prefer to weigh in around the same time every day - though sometimes a little later on the weekends, as we sleep later.

To weigh in right now I'd have to go through the bedroom, and I don't want to wake up Wife. She needs her sleep. So I'll simply write my journal, conclude that I have lost a little weight, and then let the finished journal sit here waiting for the final number before I submit it. That'll work for today.

SO...

Today is the day where we celebrate my beautiful Daughter. She turns 18, and what an amazing young lady she is. Technically, she is not mine, I simply borrow her from Wife, my I am more than proud to call her my daughter when people ask. I've known her for 6 years now, and she is 100% family. Of course she is.

She is such a gently creature, she has such wonderful ethics and is just great in every way. I doubt that she ever reads my journal, but just in case she does - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEE DEE!

Now I just gotta convince her that it's time to get a job and move out. JOKING! Juuuuuust kdding. She needs to finish her education, and prep for life, and I am more than happy to support here while that is happening. :)

Tonight is the big sushi night. Our little family is going to Holbæk, a town a few towns over, after work today. We'll go do a little shopping, finding some groovy boots for the birthday lady, go see the little Pakistani/Indian food supply store and then see what else comes along. I want to see if I can find low-sodium soy sauce, as it would benefit me at dinner.

Dinner is, as some of you know (as I've been excited and nervous about this all frickin' week!) is sushi at a "running sushi" restaurant. It's a great little place and the food is oooooooooh so good! I am really looking forward to it.

I've prepped my food plan already for all of today, pretty much:
- A slightly lighter breakfast, but not light enough that it'll leave me hungry.
- Salad with NOTHING bad or high calorie for lunch. It's basically raw thai stirfry, cabbage peas, chili peppers and a lot of other good stuff. Put in a little super low cal dressing and you have a killer, fulfilling salad. I think my lunch is just around 50 calories!
- I've calculated 15 pieces of sushi for dinner, some soy sauce, ginger and wasabi. I think it's enough.

If it's NOT enough, there is more than plenty of wiggle room in my RDI. I'm not even at 1000 calories of my 1600 RDI. So if I do good on the sushi, I can consider dessert. If I do NOT do good on the sushi, I probably will be too stuffed for dessert anyways. :)

Yesterday was a great day. I had a couple of very satisfying meetings at work, and on my way home a dear friend called and demanded a visit. We don't see him too often, and it was great that he stopped by. He started a new job which means he'll be in town much more often, and I hope we get to see him a lot more. Don't you just love when these things happen?

Other than that, we're prepping for the weekend. More birthday celebrations on Saturday. I hope I can get through today within RDI so tomorrow can be Indulgence Day as normal. I hope I can get through it without going through the roof though. I might even attempt to simply stay within normal RDI. Let's see. I cherish Indulgence Day, but I've had trouble limiting them to 2x resting metabolic rate, which is what I base it on. I think what I'll to is basically aim for 1600 (my normal RDI) but if things are fun and comfy then I'll allow myself to go over, up to 2xRMR.

Tomorrow is also the day where we go buy a new lawn mover for the garden. Yes, it's garden time soon. Wife and I have a little tiny patch of land (sounds much bigger than it is), and we're gonna spend quite some time out there this summer. We are going to put grass on larger areas there, to keep maintenance down, and make it a place for relaxing, enjoying the sun when it's out, and do some BBQ'ing. It'll be so nice. I'm dying to get going.

Gardening is not a all my strong side, but we're trying to rid ourselves of the hard labor garden that is there, and settle for more of basically a nice lawn with bushes and other low-maintenance things. The point to be there is to relax, not to work.

I am, though, curious as to how I will handle gardening. Last time I was out there doing yard work, I weight 25 kgs more than I do today. I'm sure that's gonna make a HUGE difference. :)

Well, my friends, it's 4 AM. Wife is getting up in a few and I need to start getting ready for work. I am going to work at 6 am today, so I can leave early for the Birthday trip. So I gotta stay on schedule.

Today I am thankful for:
- Another weight loss.
- The time to exercise and the will power to do it since I was already awake.
- Having the best daughter in the world.
- Friday Friday Friday!
- Sushi Sushi Sushi!
- A positive outlook on the day. I'm in a GREAT mood! Can you tell?

I hope your day will be as amazing as mine. Life is good!

Holy cow... getting on a stationary bike at 2:45 in the morning?! I think the only way that would happen is if I was still awake from the night before.. and probably had a few cocktails... ;) I'm sorry you couldn't sleep, that's a bummer - I hope you don't feel too tired today and can enjoy daughter's bday!! Sounds like a very fun night/weekend planned!! I'm very impressed that you sound so chipper for 4 am!!! I think I would be pretty crabby.. I am NOT a morning person. Your garden sounds very peaceful and fun - glad you have a relaxing place to spend your summer! My bf and I are talking about planting a veggie garden this summer - will be a fun new adventure!! Have a great day!

Erika, I really feel that I had a good night's sleep, though it was a little short. I still managed to get 5 hours, and I think that'll be okay. It's not a super long night or anything like that, so I expect us to be back home around 10 pm the latest. It's something I can handle. I gotta say I am surprisingly awake, all considered. Coffee is here by my side, I've had a little bit of breakfast, and will have the rest of it in an hour or two. Today, I'm very conscious of NOT eating breakfast too early, I don't want to get too hungry before lunch. Lunch will be late for me today, after work and on the train at 1 PM. Not good to eat breakfast at 5 am then. So I just had a slice of bread now to get my metabolism going, and I'm thinking I'll eat my "real" breakfast, with eggs, bread and ham at around 7. The day is fully planned and will be awesome. :)

Wow - still impressed - I'm usually a zombie on 5 hours of sleep.. however I do really believe that it's quality over quantity some nights.. 5 good hours is way better than 8 hours of crappy sleep. I think that's a very good plan to not have all of your breakfast right away - just a little to kickstart your day and then the rest at a more 'normal time' so that you have some holding power for lunch. You are such a great planner, must feel great to already know what will happen!! Enjoy!

Today was my usual grocery day, and I'll bet you can never guess what I just HAD to check for...Yup! Low sodium soy sauce! Of COURSE we have it! This is America! :)

I ditto Erika... 5 hours = zombie all day. But with all you've got planned if its enough kudos to you. Even though we're only cyber buds I want to tell you I'm proud of you for being there for you daughter, blood or not. It takes someone special to be a dad. Coming into it at the beginning of the teens and sticking with her is something she'll never forget. Have fun spoiling her - I hope she gets as much out of her tabby as you do :)

Wow King, hang in there! Sleep deprivation sucks, hopefully you wont hit a wall in the afternoon. Maybe you can take a cat nap on a bus or train if needed. Good luck with your gardening, I miss it. We have a small patch now, but pay a watchman to take care of it. I miss mowing my own grass.

Thanks, guys. I'm pretty certain that I won't hit any walls. I can do this. :)

Dani, I appreciate the kind words on me being a father. It's definitely something I've had to learn, but I think I've done good most of the way. I don't have kids on my own, and I'm okay with it, but I love "my" daughter. She's a cool gal and tons of fun. She's got smarts and talent like crazy. I wish I could claim that it comes from me. At least I can claim to be part of her motivation and inspiration. It makes me happy when I hear that she talks very fondly of me, and that she sees me as her blood. It matters.

I am always AMAZED at the time some people on this site get up to exercise.... Makes me feel like a real slug LOL. Happy birthday to your beautiful daughter - hope she has a great day and you find some really groovy boots for her (I hope she is getting plenty of use out of the tablet, you bought her earlier in the year). Enjoy your sushi - I hope you manage to get some low sodium soy sauce - if you do, let me know what you think of it... As some people think it is yuk - I keep meaning to get some, but keep forgetting duh!

Happy Birthday, Dee Dee! I can't believe how quickly it got here from the mention of the tablets. I hope today is a fantastic day, for all of you. So Keld, do you find a difference when you weigh-in that early? For me (and usually my weigh-ins are at 4:30am these days, that weigh-in is the same as an early evening weigh-in (at my nutritionist's office) with light clothes on.

Helewis, I usually find that I've lost less when I weigh in extremely early, though today was surprisingly good. Does that mean I'm set up for more tomorrow? :-)

Wow, that's dedication for you...exercising at crazy o'clock! I hope you have a great time celebrating your daughter's 18th today and that you enjoy all that lovely sushi. Yum!

Really. That's amazing. I always find that I weigh less around 9am (my previous weigh-in time. Odd, that. These days I have to weigh before my first meal which I'm asked to eat at 4:30am to "top off" my blood sugar before workout. Can't wait to see your weigh-in tomorrow. Have a fun Dee Dee day.

I agree with Erica. The only way I'd be exercising at 2:45 in the morning is if I was still up from the night before and had a good buzz. :) Or maybe if I was in China and it was normal workout time for me and my internal clock. Have a great day!!

I will tell you i have a step dad who I LOVE. He has been around for 17 years. I still have a relationship with my biological dad but there is a special bond with my step dad. I am so glad you have a special bond with your daughter. It is surprising how much of an impact my wonderful step dad has had on my life. Tell her Happy Birthday from all of us at FS

Happy birthday, Dee Dee! Just popped in to hear how you are doing, Keld. As always, you are moving and grooving. LOL! Fish oil pills or a good cod liver oil will help your stopped up probs. Well, that is what I am told. LOL! Hope you have a great weekend.
