kingkeld's Journal, 26 February 2012

I know it's supposed to happen after Indulgence Day, but after yesterday's super high weigh-in, bringing me all the way back to the green bar (and in my mind, bombs me back to the stone age), today's weigh-in really hurts.

I'm at 81.9 kgs. I can't believe it. What the hell?

Well, I had trouble stopping at everything and anything food related yesterday. I did worse that I think I've done on this entire journey. I think the high weigh-in really kicked me in the groin, and I had a "to hell with it all"-day.

Enough of that, though. Today is a different day. The sun is shining, and it looks like spring is just around the corner. I've already been out for a 30 minute high-paced walk - not a run, as it's pretty icy outside. I was gonna go to the gym, but I left my gym shoes at work. I'll go tomorrow.

I am totally refocusing this journey, and it starts today.

I am back to 1600 calories, as I have been for ages before I reached my goal. I will have Indulgence Day once a week, on Saturdays (except this week, as Daughter's 18th b-day is on this coming Friday, so obviously this will be Indulgence Day). I will exercise as I used to, doing my morning DVD, going to the gym and doing my bike at home.

I don't see the point in doing what I've done the last week. It's killed my motivation, it's made me gain weight. It's not working for me. I'm going back to my old system. I think I simply need it tighter, stricter, for me to have rules to play by. Sure, there can be room for fun foods. I'll just have to fit it into my calorie count. This I am perfectly okay with. I just have to stay on track and count my calories.

I will bring coffee back on the menu. I miss it, and it's a treat I can have at no real calorie cost. I'm not gonna get rid of it. I will, however, not drink it in the evenings, and if I do want a single cup, it will be decaf.

I think these are my ground rules for now. Let's see where it takes me.

1. Stay within RDI.
2. Do some kind of exercise every day. 30 mins or more.
3. Enjoy.

Today I'm thankful for:
- Wife gracefully dealing with all my weight-related whining.
- Wife.
- Wife.
- Wife.
- Wife.

Life is good.

You gave it your best shot - it didn't work... So I think you are doing the sensible thing - going back to what you know was working, and more importantly you ENJOY. I wouldn't mind betting, the changes you made, have given your body a shake up, and you will find next week and/or the week after, you do really well in the weight loss stakes. Scary though... What a change in routine and eating habits can do! :-)

YOUR SCARING ME WITH YOUR MAINT. NONSENSE! lol Knock it off and get back on the program. (kidding) I like your simple 1,2,3 deal. Just try to ride the bike or walk a normal amount, not to the moon! Good luck King, you know you have the support of many people here! Seems parts of our journey are easy, and parts are tough. It happens. Hurray for spring, i bet it is real nice where you are at!

SkInny - It IS frickin' terrifying how things can change SO FAST! I'm curious to see what this week will bring. I am sure I'll be knocking at least some of the gained weight off - though I'm sure it'll take more than a week to be "all back". :)

JP - sorry for scaring you! :) I'll try to NOT walk all the way to the moon. I do think I need regular exercise, instead of HIIT, I think it makes more sense for me. I'm thinking that the primal human being didn't do HIIT, but worked a little more consistently...

Wow! I love reading this journal. My friend and I were talking about many of the same things yesterday. Finding what works for you- something that makes you happy and supports your success- is more important than doing what you "should" do to achieve the same results. :) Your renewed focus is inspiring. You can do this!

The scary thing is that I don't know yet whether results will show. One can only hope. :) But, of course, let's count on results until proven otherwise. :)

Time to go back to basics of what works for you! You can do it. Hang in there and adding coffee in moderation is good for you. Hang in there... YOU ARE STRONG!!!

Hey there Keld! Just popped in to say hello and let you know that reading your last week of journaling gives insight to the weight gain. Lack of sleep, which causes stress, which causes poor food choices, which causes "lack of pooping" , etc, etc, etc. Also, thinking that you can eat "normally" on some days is why most of us put weight back on... we can never eat "normally" again. We have to re-establish what is a healthy normal to us as individuals. There might be more tweaking you need to do before you get yourself back on track... but foremost... get some sleep. No caffeine after 2 PM. LOL... how's that for a bossy mom? (I am trying to re-evaluate my own diet... so this is not all hot air blowing around). You will do great cause you are the best at following a structured plan. :)

Thanks, Mom2 - I really appreciate your input - and you're probably right about what's causing this. :) Good luck re-evaluating your own diet too. I think we need to do this when nothing happens, but sometimes it can be hard to see what's going on.

Hi Keld. i agree with all these comments. Mom2 is right, in my opinion when she said . "You will do great cause you are the best at following a structured plan" I guess that is why you have come so far. Just think off the case which had caused you SO many sleepless nights and was getting no where, then in a moment like a puff off smoke it was resolved. This will be the same. I cant explain your bowel blockage !!!!! but i think your frustration, tension is causing a blockage which is sapping your energetic mind and draining your resources. YOU will bounce back, it never takes you long to sort things out. Keep your lovely beaming smile, remember ! Life IS good Keld. Soon be time for your daughters Pressie (present) Sent you a PM,this morning hope you got it. Much love Sazy.

Doing what is right for you instead of what you are "meant to do" is what is going to work. Its your body, your life, and you are now in control of it, why do what others say you should when you know what works! You are my hero. You will be back down in no time, I know you can do it.

Hey Keld!! Hang in there, buddy - this is actually a great reality check for you and everyone else on this site.. You have had an amazing approach to your health throughout this process, and it really shows that you can't just make some changes for awhile and then revert back once you're at goal weight - this is a lifetime commitment - I think that's something that too many people struggle with, especially those that don't take a realistic, healthy approach like you and instead do a silly crash diet to lose weight, and then wonder why it all comes back!! I'm so glad that you have all of the tools that you need to get right back on track and get this STUPID green bar off of your weight history FOR GOOD!!!!! :)
