Ieksie's Journal, 21 April 2017

I'm seriously moving in the wrong direction... I'm starting to think it's stress! I'll enjoy my next long weekend that is coming up next week, then May will mark the one year anniversary of my fasting journey. Then I will seriously look at what I'm doing wrong, or what I could do better...

On a worser note, my hubby has high blood pressure, and we have to monitor it for the next two months to see if he needs medication!! Your crap really starts when you're over 30!! Urgh!
172.2 lb Lost so far: 2.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.
gaining 6.2 lb a week

Hi Leksie, What fasting window do you use and do you follow a special eating plan as well? I have tried this for a bit and I think my biggest downfall was that when I could eat I ate all the wrong stuff.

I only eat dinners in the week & on weekends I follow 16:8 intermittent fasting. Most of my week night dinners is healthy, paleo/whole30/banting type dinners, but I have a wine addiction which I KNOW I HAVE TO ADDRESS... What I don't understand is that last year I lost up to 6 kilos with this regime, but since Christmas last year I picked up the weight I lost & ever since I just can't seem to lose it again... And I'm not doing anything different now than before Christmas...

If you are picking up weight its because you are in a caloric surplus. There is biologically no other way you can gain weight. If you track your meals and stay in a caloric deficit daily, you WILL lose weight. The absolute best advice I can give you (although you did not ask for it) is to forget about intermittent fasting/Banting/Paleo. Just simply work out your maintenance calories, subtract 300 cals from that and then divide your daily cals in 40% protein,40% carbs, 20% fat. Stick to these targets everyday and you ABSOLUTELY WILL make progress.

Oh and I also had high blood pressure. Then I lost 10% bodyfat and boom BP better than ever. Of course thats assuming your husband isn't very lean already.

it might be worth doing research on IF and women. i had the same experience as you where I lost weight and felt great with IF/low carb. but slowly it stopped working and I actually started gaining weight. a lot of research now is showing that men respond much better to 16:8 than women and all research showing its benefits are based on men. it seems that 12hr fasts and also not every day seem to work better. i do occasional 16:8 now and 12hr ones a few days a week. (after taking a break from all IF for a while) and am.losing weight again.

Yeah I agree have a look at your calorie intake. Be even more strict on your diet I'm sure you'll start losing again. All the best!

Leksie, PM me. I hate giving unsolicited advice, but I may have found your problem.

@Bornmanh remember the macro percentages for everyone is different even if they weigh the same so 40/40/20 might work for you but for leksie it might not work. Everyone's body reacts different to carbs. I'm on a 42/35/24 and my friend is on 55/25/20 and we weight the same and same length and we on the same body fat percentage.

@Side4kicks 40/40/20 is just a starting guidline, I actually do 36/44/20. But 40/40/20 is a good place to start and adjust from there.
