Earthlady's Journal, 18 February 2012

Well, here's the secret - I've been steady at my new, low, target weight since Wednesday! I didn't say earlier because I thought it my be a blip after being unwell and having no appetite but I think I can definitely say I've reached my target weight!

I think it's been 10 or 11 weeks since I started and more than 5 kilos gone for good. I feel great! Before I started I think I had something of a motivation problem because I allowed myself to think that 5 k wouldn't make that much difference. In fact, I've lost a whole dress size and then some.

FS has been a huge factor in my success because of the journal, my buddies and the sense of accountability that recording everything holds me to. It really works for me.

So what now? Well, as I've said a couple of times before, I'd like to keep losing, down to about 54 k which is around eight and a half stone in old money. That's my twenties weight and I didn't put it as my original target because I didn't dream it mught be achievable. Now, however I think it definitely is possible. I've also said that I've been very lucky, the weight has gone mostly from my bottom and thighs, which is clearly where I was carrying it. If I get thinner and start to look gaunt and scrawny in the face, I'll stop before 54k.

Funnily enough, except for my family in England, no-one's commented on my weight loss yet! I wear a white overall over lots of layers of sweaters at work, so perhaps no-one has noticed! To me there's a huge difference, but this is a small lesson to me in terms of body image - other people don't see what we see and they're not that interested, anyway!

Well, well, well! I told you I had a good feeling about today, didn't I? (she smiles smugly to herself...lol). Congratulations! I'm very pleased for you! I'm glad to hear you say you'll stop before you get "too thin" as you say...we need a little bit of weight to protect us against breaking our hips as we totter toward old age, don'tcha know? It's so funny how often you say things that sound like me! Nobody at my work has noticed my weight loss, either. However, I must say, most people are surprised to hear how much I weigh(ed). I, too, carry most of my excess around my hips and thighs--it's a family tradition :) and my face is longer than it is round, so I "look" thin, if you can't see my hips, which I'm fairly adept at hiding...lol! You're right about body image...I want to look good to myself, and for my husband, of course, and set a good example for my children...as for everyone else, Meh! As long as I feel good about me, I figure that should be good enough for the general public, know what I mean? Anyway, again, I'm so pleased for you. I hope you'll still be my "buddy"...I've grown accustomed to your face. And I agree that FS has been a huge help. I know I don't record much, and only have two buddies, but that's just right for me...I enjoy reading others' journals and taking tips and inspiration from those things. There really is strength in numbers. I particularly appreciate those who have such a good attitude, have ups and downs, but just keep plugging. Hope your weekend is terrific.
