kingkeld's Journal, 13 February 2012

It's Monday morning, and I feel pretty good, everything considered. I've been quiet throughout the weekend, so I better explain what "everything" is.

I reached a brilliant new low of 76.7 Saturday morning. Feeling confident, I planned my meals for the entire day, and then during the day I just as confidently threw it out the window and went crazy on chocolate. That DAMN chocolate. I had way too much. WAY too much.

Then when I reached dinner time, I got sick. I'm not sure if it was what I had chosen to eat through the day, of if it was the actual dinner (I doubt it, as I reacted during the meal - and I feel that it would be too fast for my body to react) but I got SO sick and had to go to bed. It was pretty bad. So the meal I had been looking forward to was no joy at all. :(

So, not only did I go way over my RDI (even for Indulgence Day), but I didn't enjoy the foods, I got sick AND I felt horrible about it afterwards.

Hopefully this will teach me a lesson.

So, yesterday, I wanted to do somewhat better, get back on track, and get my head back in the game. I did so just fine.

Wife and I woke up kinda late, and decided that we weren't gonna do ANYTHING yesterday. The main focus for the entire day becase a Lord Of The Rings movie marathon. That's 11½ hours of movies! The only breaks we had was to go microwave lunch, and put chicken to cook for dinner!

I will say that I felt bad for not exercising and moving around much - but I DID manage to do an hour on the bike during the first movie. I wanted to do more, but my body politely asked me to not push too hard. I think getting sick Saturday put a natural stop to it. I did manage the one hour, though, and this made me feel better.

I did much better on my food choices too. I had a few snacks - it was Sunday with movies after all - but I kept it WELL within my RDI.

Sunday morning I weighed in at 79 kgs - a new low for a Sunday. This made me really happy, but I was also prepared that it would most likely climb a little for Monday morning. And it did. Today I am at 79.7 kgs. I'm happy that I'm still below 80, but it's still a little high compared to what I had hoped for. I'll survive, though. It's not that big a deal.

So, this week I will "punish" myself for having my slacker weekend. I will put more effort into exercising. I will put more effort into staying within RDI. The latter part will be a little easier this week, as I am again upping my RDI with 100 calories. This week I will be at 1900, and see where it takes me.

Right after this journals is done, I will get on the bike and do 30 minutes. I will try to do this every morning, if I don't do some other kind of exercise instead. I just want to move, do things, burn a few extra calories here and there.

Today will be a great day at work. I have one interview, and this is an interesting case. I wish I could talk more about it, because it's one I am really curious about. Of course, confidentiality clauses (and my personal ethics) bid me to NOT talk about it. But let me assure you, this case has been on my mind this weekend, and for once in a positive way. :)

Today I am thankful for
- an awesome weekend with Wife.
- Peter Jackson and Co. doing The Hobbit. I can't wait to see it. I'm pretty sure that once they are out in the wonderful extended versions on Blu-Ray in a few years, there will be a two day marathon of the whole Tolkien saga doing on at our house. :)
- My body (im)politely telling me to lay off the damn chocolate!
- A new, shiny Low on Saturday. Let's hope for another one next Saturday (though I am not sure I'll make it with the massive setback I gave myself).

Have an awesome week, buddies. Never forget that LIFE IS GOOD!

EDIT: 30 minutes morning stationary bike ride DONE! :) Hope to hit the gym this afternoon for a nice walk/movie.

Well, I hope you are feeling better and can get back to a normal routine. I know what it is like to crave something, and then feel crappy afterwards. Donuts do that to me! I can eat 4-5 of them (1000+ calories), and then I really feel crappy afterwards. Have fun with your interesting work too. I have some of that going on this week too.

congrats to you great weigh-in on saturday! that is so great. but it isn't great you felt terrible because of chocolate... everyone got things they carve....mine are salt-and-vinegar chips. i LOVE these, but i ususally eat too much and i feel terrible afterwards. so i decided not to buy me these....and i haven't this year so far :) wish you a great day, keld, you're doing good! :)

11½ hours of movies??? That's way more amazing to me than the indulgences. Lessons learned. You're so accountable. Hope you're all better and having a great day at work.

Why do we do it to ourselves? Instead of being sensible with the chocolate, the demon in us, takes over.... Lesson learned? Will you do it again? Possibly - but I guess not for a while. Maybe self hypnosis - imagining the chocolate and then the sickness, And trying to associate the two together - may delay another session. Have a great day :-)

I know, SkInny, it's so weird. This time might have taught me something - I got REALLY sick. :/ I still want chocolate, but I defnitely know that there is a limit. :)

This is a good reason to allow yourself those little things, like working a partial serving of chocolate into your diet once or twice a week to stave off the monster that rears on Saturdays! I am SOOOO with you on the LOTR series... I got the blurays for Christmas, just haven't made time *and I do me MADE time* to watch them! Watched a handful of extra stuff here n there. Looking forward to The Hobbit, as well! The cast looks awesome!

Hi Keld, Fantastic news about your new low, wonderful. I think you have already taken your punishment with the sickness and anyway your exercising isnt punishment! You know you love it now and you are a convert to the PLEASURES of exercising. I guess you mean you will have to put yourself through the paces more this week. I think you should just carry on as usual, as you do after your indulgence day and not beat yourself up about it anymore. Sazy xx

Glad to see you got on the bike already! I wish they would just put chocolate in the narcotic section and require a prescription. LOL

Looks like your sickness was a clear case of over-indulgence as it passed quickly. Sounds like Skinnyfuture's association idea could fit in with your mindfulness training and be of some benefit in the future. I hope you enjoyed your workday as much as you anticipated :)

That's the exact reason I don't allow myself to indulge in my weakness...donuts, cookies, cakes...those are my chocolate, and if I indulged my eyes would just roll back into my head and I would probably come back to reality after the whole package was gone...so I took my daughter out for lunch and she ordered a donut with her meal, I was really happy with myself for not ordering one for me...I did steal a bite of hers, but since it was hers only one small bite (she watched pretty closely :D ) I hope you can avoid it in the future...it's still just a stumble, but I try to avoid stumbles at all costs!! Later.

Hi Keld, can you please answer this, how long does it usually takes you to recover from the "Indulgence day"?
13 Feb 12 by member: Ryan75
We all get those cravings from time to time. The important thing is that we don't let it take over our journey. Good for you for getting back on track the very next day. I foresee another new low next weekend. I know how determined and dedicated you are so I do not see that as a stretch. Good luck.

Ryan75, here is what I usually experience: I eat for my Indulgence Day on Saturdays, then I gain weight (a lot!) Sunday, and sometimes a little further gain Monday. Then I stall for a day or two, or experience kinda slow weight loss, and over the next days I lose what I hope to for the week. Many times, I don't see the full result of it until the following Saturday morning's weigh-in. It can really mess with your head - there can be several days where you doubt that things are going in the right direction. If you do right, then it should work - at least that is my experience.
