Back to weighing in every day. I'd rather deal with the day-to-day fluctuations, and know where I stand, rather than take the chance on receiving some crushing bad news at the end of the week - even though there's a very good chance that I would be well aware that I deserved it. But, that's beside the point. This is not a place to get depressed; this is a place where I come to get pumped up, and be able to leap buildings in a single bound. Some get depressed seeing the day-to-day fluctuations; I'm just the opposite - I guess because I'm pretty good at responding to them. I consider them early warning signs of an impending attack, and I fortify my position.

No running today. I feel surprisingly good for the effort I expended yesterday. Decided to work on some strength training this morning with pushups, pullups, crunches, and leg raisers. I felt a whole lot more spent after about 20 minutes of that, than I did after the 5 mile run yesterday. That tells me where the work is really needed.

It's incredible that they are calling for snow and it's 46F out there today. I guess it's going to drop to the 30's later today, but this sure is crazy for January in Illinois. I've got the sniffles, and my nose is plugged-up on and off, and I'm just praying I don't get down and fall behind on my running. I'm trying to get myself psyched up for the 6 1/4 mile run on Sunday. On the one hand, it looks impossible, but so did last week's run, and the one before that, and on and on she goes.

If there is one thing I've learned in all of this, it's this: No matter how old you are, or what shape you're in, don't count the human body out until you're looking at the sod from the wrong side. Last year, I had a pinched nerve in my back for six months, that caused me the most pain I've ever experienced from my hip to the tip of my toe. I thought I was out for the count. Spent the majority of my time with ice bags from hip to foot. On a fentanyl patch and taking vicodin like candy. It wasn't until I started going to sleep while driving with my eyes wide open, with the tires of the truck hitting the shoulder and waking me up, that I said, "Enough is enough!" I stopped the pain killers 'cold turkey'. I got a couple of shots in the back, which were supposed to provide temporary relief for a couple of weeks, but I'm pretty convinced there was some kind of divine intervention going on here. Because that was 14 months ago, and I'm feeling pretty positive about this next year. So, I believe that, if you are suffering, your worst enemy can be your own mind. If you've got breath, you've still got hope; hang in there.

What an inspiring story. I had no idea of your comeback! Thanks for sharing. I'm excited to hear about your Sunday 10k. While you are hugging and puffing out that last quarter mile just think about how great you'll feel and how proud you will be of yourself for getting it done. We know you have it in you. The body is an amazing machine but the mind is an incredible miracle!

Wonderful journal today. Mind over matter. Love the part about looking up at the sod from the wrong side. I agree strength training is a whole nother ballgame. I had been doing a bit of and then tried a jillian cd with cardio and just about died lol. Im in indiana are we going to get snow? Craziest weather ever. Ice storm on day 50 degrees the next. Just crazy!! Good luck with your 10k

Thank you All. You do know that the 10K I will be running this Sunday is on the treadmill, right? It will be my first time ever (at least it's the first time of doing it without paratrooper boots doing the airborne shuffle) to run 6.3 miles, so I'm not doing that out there in front of people. :) Jillian is making me do it. Every Sunday it's basically a mile further than the Sunday before, until I either top out at about 13.1 miles at the end of next month, or end up in the coronary care unit. Let's hope it's the former. Short run of less than 3 miles tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it. See you then.

Lol oh my gosh thats funny. You do make it sound like group event. I didnt think there was anything going on in the middle of winter. Jillian is quite the task master. Good luck just the same.
