I can't believe that I'm finally putting in a lower number than when I restarted my fitness goals back in September! I initially gained 3 pounds as soon as I started working out, and for the past 3 months I have been losing and gaining the same three pounds.

On a whim, I decided to join a friend on her doctor-recommended diet of 1400 calories daily. She told me about this when we were in Mexico, and during our vacation I noticed how little we ate and figured it was worth a try.

In my opinion, a 1400 calorie diet is a starvation diet. So, I'm looking at it as a fast.

Another thing I noticed while in Mexico is that we rarely ate breakfast on time. We're not resort people, we like to get in the car and explore. On most days, we'd set out planning to stop by a cafe and grab a coffee and a pastry or something. However, we'd forget about it and it would be about 1230 or 1 before we ate anything.

I thought...that's technically skipping breakfast. Isn't that bad? Well, I didn't really feel bad. Also, I calculated that I was eating 200-400 calories less each day because we rarely had breakfast. Shoot we barely had lunch. I know one day I wasn't feeling well and I had the tomato and cucumber off of my salad, maybe 4 chips, and two bites of rice all day. We always had dinner, though.

I lost weight while in Mexico...about 3 pounds. Thanks, stomach bug! But, my weight is still going down. I may see onederland by the end of this month. I can't believe I actually said that, I've never stayed over 200 pounds for more than a month. And, now it's been the better part of a year. Oh well, time to leave and never come back.

I don't know how long I'm going to stay under 1400 calories. I've finally gotten in control of the craving to eat every 5 seconds. They're not mastered though, those cravings are little monsters. But there are craving on every diet to master. So, cheers to this one.

I can have 1500 calories (per pan) but usually eat only 75% of that. I found that last night, I had to grub up something to snack on since i hadn't reached my 75% self imposed limit. I am about three weeks into this (aided by the flu also) and my body is adjusting. Maybe this will happen for you. P.S. I feed my cravings somewhat judiciously. Enjoy!

My cardiologist told me to eat 1500 calories per day. I lost 70 pounds without exercising! (Couldn't exercise, as I have a myopathy - muscle weakness - that gives me "exercise intolerance". ) Due to a couple of my meds that have to be taken on an empty stomach, and not eat for an hour afterward, I rarely ate breakfast. Much easier to spread the 1500 calories between two meals, instead of three! I would have kept at it, but got tired of keeping track of the calories, especially as my myopathy improved, and I started cooking from scratch again. After gaining back 30 pounds, I'm counting again. I never got to the weight goal my cardiologist set, not sure if I'll get back that far this time, but I need to get back to where I was before I stopped counting.

Good ideas @Annyoakly. I find that a hard boiled egg will stop my cravings (most of the time!).

@snikso - thank you! Any other small snack ideas? I'm vegan. @annyoakly - I like that idea. What does "per pan" mean; I'm unfamiliar with that term. At some point, I know I need to gradually increase my calories to find my limit. I'm thinking its 1800, but right now my max is 1400...and I'm not sure that I'm even eating that much. @rramom - that's exactly what I was thinking too that its much easier to spread the calories between two meals instead of 3 or more. The moment I eat my first meal of the day it's over. I'm going to be hungry every 90 minutes afterwords and a small snack only makes me angry.

@snggle I'd choose the most densest of proteins with the least amount of carbs that you can eat. Fact is that protein and fat curb appetite and cravings.

Although skipping breakfast may not be great for your metabolism, it is easy to skip it and, like you, once I eat for the first time I feel like eating all day. I don't though. Amazing how I can go 12-15 hours sometimes with no food and not feel hungry, but once I eat it's over lol
