northernmusician's Journal, 10 July 2016

So. End results. 11 8 2 4 thigh, ab, pec, iliac. No fat storage change, and according to the system, there shouldn't be. Actually, with calorie intake over the last 5 days I'm still 1500 calories under maintenance.

After a 6000 calorie day with 1125 gr of carb over a 30 hour period, I have a gain of 5.6 pounds. If you consider approximately 500 gr of glycogen storage and 4 gr of water per gram of glycogen, I'd say I'm bang on for storage. The next two days are maintenance days with carbs to finish the loading at 2700 - 2800 calories so my weight may go up another pound.

What I learned.
Oats was a wrong first choice. It was too filling for first meal of the morning. I can see now why some who do this choose a full box of breakfast cereal. Trying to do this with heavy carbs at the beginning, oats, bagels... is hard to do. I felt stuffed all day.

Next time:
Get control of water and sodium intake
Plan better to reduce fat intake (170 gr was a little high)
No high sodium carb sources
Research better carb sources
Plan for more complete protein intake without resorting to BCAAs to cover the failure.

Link to my carb sources for the 30 hour refeed.

Is there any particular criteria you're looking for when you pick your carbs?

Lower fat is better. Quick breakdown rather than longer breakdown. Flatbread had 15 gr of fat compared to 2 gr for 2 slices of bread at same calories, so bread is better. Limited fruit to load liver with less chance of fat storage. Glucose dextrose and maltodextrin preferred. Limited sucrose and fructose... except sugar crisp will be non-negotiable. :D

Aw, damn, that takes a lot off the table, I was going to suggest pecan pie, but that's probably got too much sucrose in it.

Wow, that does take a lot off of the table, I'm sitting here drawing a blank. From what I can see you would be regulated to homemade pasta...(eggs and flour - you control the salt) onions, peppers, homemade tomato sauce (you control the sugar and the salt) and ground beef, along with homemade potato bread with garlic and butter. Beans and cornbread...(high carb - lower fat - good source of protein) UGH, all those stipulations make it hard!

Potatoes and rice should be in there somewhere!

What it worth it? How much of the gain to you believe to be muscle? I understand the muscles suck up the glycogen carb load, right? I need tweaking...not saying I would do what you just did, but curious.

donuts... far too much fat as well

hcb. It has only put me in an anabolic state. I'm lifting now. The glycogen and carbs over the next two days will keep me there. How much built? In the next couple of days, we're llikely talking ..1/4 oz? idk

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't think it can be calculated that way. Too many variables.

How will you know if this entire exercise was successful?

The goal is to lower body fat yet. It's a matter of controlling insulin and other hormonal activity in the body.

Changed goal weight to 180, though it doesn't mean a lot. Two were in the blue from the 4 days of low carb/low cal. I like a graphical result, rather than simply bottoming in blue.
