northernmusician's Journal, 06 July 2016

Last night. While I knew in theory what was supposed to happen, I wasn't ready for the reality. For the last several months I've been working with power lifting with some higher rep movements for hypertrophy. This was different, and doing it on 900 calories with only about 23 carbs onboard was brutal. 8 different lifting exercises. 3 sets of 15 each 1.5 minutes apart for each exercise. After you're done, it's repeat. Felt heady and sick to my stomach after the first run through 3 sets of each and didn't do the second run through. The plan tomorrow will be two sets of each exercised followed with 2 sets following. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the most brutal days as far as the exercise is concerened. The Friday lifting will be lower reps, which I'm used to with more time between, and Sunday lifting will be after an astonishingly huge carb refeed day.

Next week, I'll go to three sets of all exercises on Tues and Wed followed by 2. I'm going to have to work into this. On the good side, I am feeling like I'm dieting again and not playing around the edges. 1400 calories is awfully lean at 50% of my maintenance, but Friday night/Saturday refeed is going to be in the neighbourhood of 5200 calories in carbs alone... 1200 - 1300 grams of carbs, mostly glucose, dextrose, and maltodextrin based.

Day one is behind me. I'll report on day Thursday morning about how Wednesday went, which will be a rest day. Thursday is a rest day. Today I'm on a roadtrip to PG. I won't be checking in much.

Did you check your blood sugar? That's the way I felt when my BS went to low during exercise. Scary..

Actually, yes, that's the whole point of the routine, to get you quickly into ketosis and ready for a carb load down the road. I'm just not used to it. It'll come.

Its simply conditioning NM. Powerlifting is 100% anaerobic. doing it for a long time without cardio conditioning completely decimates our aerobic capacity. It'll come back.

I'm watching and waiting patiently for your results as I continue to play with my 10 lb dumb bells, for some reason the idea of heavy lifting is very attractive to me so I am using you guys to continue my education, when you report your results, can I request a weight-lifting for dummies type of synopsis?

Chadlius. I'm half way through tonight. I have 2 sets of each done. 10 minute rest and then I'm back downstairs to do the second run through. Looks like an hour twenty all told. Feeling pretty good this time. Only had about 300 calories until 5 PM then a good sized meal with most of the carbs. Pleased with how quickly I'm becoming attuned. Monday I'll go to three sets followed by two. HCB. Look up Lyle McDonald Ultimate Diet 2.0. If you're 22% you qualify for the use of this program.
