22

Well, while logging 'place holder' weights during my deload/no-lift week, I kept track of my weight in my spreadsheet. (Yes, I did, Redgirl.) I was afraid I was going to gain a pile of weight over that time so I logged the placeholders. Anyway, it turns out that the last 7 days, eating an average of 2850 calories per day, I was either 188.4 or 188.6 except for 1 day. Not bad. That's maintenance. Lean bulk calories should be about 3100.

At this point, I still want to cut a few pounds, but I'm not in a hurry to do so. Today will be in the neighbourhood of 2000 calories, and I'm considering switching to upper/lower body work outs twice a week. Considering 2800ish on lifting days and 2000 on two of the non-lifting days.

I'm working with a spreadsheet with a 4 site body fat location formula that I set up yesterday. It puts me at just under 12%. To me, that seems really close. Abs are slowly forming into six rather than just seeing ingresses at the obliques. Pretty pleased.

Have a good day everyone.

I may come off this cut shortly. Looking to avoid rebound. What was your process for raising your calories so high?

Hmmm...so after surgery I can call my missed workouts "deload" days? I should eat less calories, right?

HCB, if you're recovering from surgery eat at least maintenance calories for sedentary. @Jimmy. I have no idea. I tried the bulk cut thing and gained quite a bit of weight at 3200 calories. I had, at one point, eating at an 1800 calorie level for weeks at a time, but I think I lost far more than fat. It wasn't a good approach looking back at it. I thing Norton is onto something with reverse dieting. I'm pretty careful now not to go too low. Calculators only go so far. A lot of the calculators say that I should be able to eat at 3200 calories for maintenance, and that's figuring in my age. I'd suggest going to what you think would be maintenance and hang there for a week or so and see if the weight levels off. I think the calculators are just a guideline. I think each person has to figure it out for themselves. It's different, I think, if you're 50 pounds overweight. There's a lot of slop factor that will allow you to lose weight when you're that heavy so almost any calculator would see you losing weight. Being 15% bf or below is an entirely different thing. I also believe that while calories are a reasonable guideline, that you would lose weight differently given the food choices within any caloric level. It seems to be that way for me.

@HCB I have taken to eating for recovery vs. flogging myself to continue cutting when sick (or whatever). What diet would be most supportive of your post op recovery?

Sorry, incomplete thought on Norton. I think raising calories slowly from maintenance may see a metabolic increase to use the increased calories, but it has to be a slow process. Food doesn't drive metabolism from maintenance, but metabolism may increase given the opportunity, and the necessity through lifting, of using those calories in a more positive way.

Sounds good there, Northern! Sounds like you monitor your diet very well.
