cocobutt's Journal, 27 November 2011

I want to get back on the right track. Mr Coco weighed himself today and was shocked by how much he has gained over the last month. I will do my best to record my food intake today.

My 13 yr old yellow cat is very sick today. It started out as lethargy, but when I took him to the vet 10 days ago thinking it was a UTI, the vet said he was fine. He gave him a steroid shot in case he was having seasonal allergy problems, but then he came down with cold symptoms. They're getting worse and he looks dehydrated, so I need to take him to the emergency clinic today. It's sloppy raining and dreary out today, but at least it's not freezing cold. This reminds me too much of the time of year when my first first yellow cat, Tommy, died on my birthday back in the late 80s. I'm really worried.

update midnight: We just took our kitty to the emergency vet clinic and things were much worse than we thought. He has internal bleeding and it's hard to figure out where it's coming from. His blood count was way way down, so they're transfusing him now. We hope he'll make it through the night. I'm so very sad. I could tell he was about to die. His other stats looked good -- we hope that it's not a tumor, but they won't be able to tell until tomorrow. My poor baby.

I hope your cat is ok. Give him lots of lovin to help him through it. Last year, when my cat got deathly ill, I had to feed him warm chicken broth through a straw for days...then as he regained energy I added butter to it. After a week he was up and around. I can tell that he remembers all of it by how he still clings to me. Our furry friends really do depend on us as much as we do on them.

Thank you for the kind words, BF. My vet recommended Gatorade until we can take him in tomorrow morning when the vet gets back in town. I hope he makes it through the night. I really don't want to take him to the animal ER because I know that would stress the poor little guy out so badly. I'm afraid it would accelerate the problem. I'm beside myself with worry.
