I actually did not overeat at Thanksgiving dinner. I wish I could say it was because I was making a conscious choice to eat in a healthy way, but it was really more about appearances in front of my in-laws. They had not seen me in several months, so I was getting complimented on my weight loss. That kind of attention will keep you from overindulging. I kept it to about a couple of tablespoons of each item and a small sliver of each of the 3 desserts.

Then we came home, watched Dr. Gupta's show, The Last Heart Attack. Then ordered a pizza. The craving won out over good sense. I guess as pizzas go, it was not the worst option -- whole wheat crust with spinach, fresh tomatoes, bacon and feta. Well, the last 2 ingredients not so healthy.

It seems like this Esselstyn diet is getting a lot of publicity these days because of Bill Clinton. Is it overhyped or is it legit? A few case studies indicate that it has merit. But I wonder -- it's good for reversing heart disease, but what about other medical conditions? Is it good for diabetics? Brain function? Next year, it will be some other WOE that's the sure cure for what ails you.
