kingkeld's Journal, 22 November 2011

Phew - almost all the weight I gained yesterday is gone today. I'm glad, it really wasn't a very welcome weight gain (then again, they never are, are they?). Today, I weigh in at 84.4, and I am happy to be below 85 kgs again. Just a short 7.4 kg sprint and I AM DONE! Of course, this is me talking before my Thanksgiving dinner two days from now!

Now, a few things to consider about that Thanksgiving dinner. It's really not that much of a concern, the way I look at it:

I normally eat around 1600 calories. My body burns (according to FatSecret and a few other sites) just about 2800 calories per day, doing normal stuff.

This means that I could eat up to 2800 calories one day WITHOUT ANY FAT GAIN. Essentially, if I stay below 2800 calories, then my gain will not be permanent, and after a few days it'll just adjust. I see it happening with Indulgence Day all the time. It's (almost) all about calories in vs. calories out. If we eat less than we burn, we lost weight, if we eat more then we gain weight. At least, that's the theory. Of course there can be other factors that can affect this also.

I think the key here is to NOT be eating this much every day. Doing it on special occasions like Thanksgiving, X-mas, etc. is not a biggie for me. And if I register my food as I go, then I know I will think twice when I consider 2nd helpings.

Wife is really excited about Thanksgiving this year. She is REALLY preparing everything, and is so looking forward to being the hostess on this. I'm so happy to see her excited like this, and so happy that we can do it. We'll have guests over representing no less than 5 countries (Denmark, USA, Iran, China and Holland) so it will be a super multi cultural event. The food is gonna be all-American, though. Wife wants to do a traditional (or close to) American thanksgiving, seen from a Texan's point of view.

Today is teaching day. After work, I'll go teach the kids some more rock'n'roll. Last time we started looking at Highway To Hell, and I am hoping we can learn more of that today. I gotta listen to it a few times before I go, I think I'll do that on the way to the school, just to know the arrangement a little better. It's been ages since I really heard it.

It's so much fun to play music with the kids, they really get into it.

Okay... let's get to it... the keen reader will notice that I haven't mentioned my exercise bike. It's sitting right here next to me, staring at me. It's making me feel uncomfortable. I know. It wants attention. God, it's like a frickin' puppy! LOL. Yeah yeah yeah, I'll get on it. As soon as I am done writing my journal, I will get on it, then post finished at the end with time and all, and then post my journal. :) There! Happy now?! LOL. You guys know how I hate exercise. I know it's good for me, I know it promotes my weight loss, I just hate doing it. I will put on some good music, or TV, and get going. Now! :)

My buddy on FS, madaboutmoose, has inspired me to add a little something to my journals. She always puts things that she is grateful for, and I think it's such a wonderful idea. I think it keeps us motivated, and it helps us to stop for a moment and think about the good things in life. Sometimes they are huge things, and sometimes it's just the little things that makes us smile.

So, here goes:

Today, I am thankful for:

- Feeling better after being sick last week.
- Having the opportunity to have fun with kids tonight.
- Having a warm kitty cat sitting in my lap and keeping me from being cold in my somewhat cold living room.
- Having a wife who is willing to wait watching her favorite show until I can find time.

THERE! I did 30 minutes on the bike. Happy now?!? :) Actually, it DOES feel good doing it. I just know I'm gonna struggle getting back on again tomorrow. I'll try though.

Have a great day, everyone! Life is good!

Dammit. Does that mean I have to get on it AGAIN? :) I'll do my best. I wouldn't mind an extra calorie knockdown in preparation for Thursday.

I look at my calories like a bank account .... I get paid 2400 a day =16,800 a week. So I try to save every day so that by the end of the week I have at least 5,000 in my account, giving me a 1.5lb loss. How each day pans out is not as important as my total weekly savings. It keeps things flexible and pretty easy to track. Have fun, that's the important bit, and we all have so much to be thankful for, thanks for the reminder xx

That's a pretty good mindset, Di. You got it! And yes - FUN is important! Life is too good for us to NOT have fun!

Ah ... you sound back to yourself!!! That is good!!! Congrats on the dip on the scale again. Thanks for the mention. I felt a little guilty because my journal was very brief this morning ... though I did include my grateful list!!! Take care!!

Ups and downs baby. You are working hard, and it shows. I appreciate your vigilance and journaling. Its all about the average man. I have experienced a bouncing around in a 2-4 pound range of ups and downs regardless. As long as I dont top 5 and KEEP 5 I am feeling okay. (It takes practice for mr to feel okay!!) Keep up the good work and the gratitude my man!
