Hermiones Mom's Journal, 10 January 2016

The scale caught up with me today. I don't really believe I've gained 5 pounds -- my guess is it's mostly water weight. But since I start a 12-week challenge to lose 1 pound per week tomorrow, it doesn't seem very sensible to use a start weight that's inaccurate by at least 2 pounds if not 5. But I know the past two weeks have been too carb-heavy and higher calorie than I should have been eating. It's discouraging in the sense that I know I wasn't behaving completely irresponsibly -- I really tried to keep things under some kind of control -- but it wasn't enough. What's discouraging is that if this weight gain is real, then I am going to have to be so vigilant to keep weight off even when I make goal. What a drag...

But vigilant is good, it is something we all do to be healthy. And becoming more healthy means more energy and better mood. It is better on your joints and organs. I have been struggling with cravings and try to eat small amounts, but hopefully I can say no a little more often. It helped me to make sure I did not bring the things I should not eat into the house. So, when I "cheat" it is at places I visit. It is best to eliminate one thing at a time - or at the very least smaller amounts. Good luck and remember each day is a new start.

Thanks, Dee0927 and HCB. I think mostly over the holidays it was just too much eating out, so I was eating larger portions, and also, the timing of my meals was all off, so that I was getting too hungry and eating extra stuff. But I'm not "noshing" all the time on bad stuff, especially since my IBS-D makes so many foods dangerous for me to eat. I just have to put the disciplines back in place, and I'll do ok.

I gained during the holidays, too, and I really tried not too but I did eat things I normally don't. Be kind to yourself and get yourself back to where you are on track and happy.
