northernmusician's Journal, 08 December 2015

Well, calipers are saying I've edged to 15% bf. Not sure if it's true or not. If it is, my new end weight should be 180 instead of my old goal of 175. That would seem to indicate a lean gain of about 3 pounds. Pretty happy with that. We'll have to see. Yay, powerlifting!

That's great, and evidence that what you're doing is achieving the results you want.

Without core strength the other isn't supported - or maybe it's the time of year? *smirk*

Well, goal weight would really depend on your height, and what Body Fat % you're looking to achieve.

The calipers are certainly better than just going off of percentages, but I'd love to do the float-in-a-tank-of-water test. Has anyone used that method here?

Haven't used the tank float (Hydrostatic I think is the name)...but it's not as accurate as you would think as you have to expel all your oxygen and hold your breath...so much air do you have left assisting in buoyancy? There is another option "Bod Pod", haven't seen them around, but they're a franchise and can be set up at a local gym and easy to use, pretty accurate from what I've read, but all are secondary to the DeXA scan. Used for measuring Bone Density, but will show you ala MRI type imagery, exactly where fat is located, and what density, i.e., visceral organ fat, or subcutaneous fat.
