Espresso is on the stove and I'm about to start my day. Over the past few years I've noticed something and thought I should pass it on. It's harder to lose weight during winter. Yep. Fact. Darkness has to do with it. Right now here it get's light around 8:30 AM and is dark by 4 PM. It can be tough to take. I must admit though, I don't mind it being light from 3 AM to 11:30 PM in the summer. I guess there's a tradeoff there. Harder to lose weight in winter This is not an excuse, it's a reason, and the article hase a couple of easy possible fixes. One is "Get outside". Yeah... -17. I'll do that.

It is. The mid-winter food fests don't help, either.

Just got a Nordic Track elliptical. Its going in my wife's salon room in the house with a 19" Tv on the wall in front of it. It's going to be my best friend for the winter. :)

I love jogging when it is brisk outside!

EDC. I love a good book and keeping the wood stove stoked up. :) Hey, Chad. You're some type of engineer, right? Can you hook up a generator from the elliptical to run the TV?

That's where I'm at too. I keep shooting for 1800 calories, but I just can't seem to keep it solid. At least that keeps the cals low enough that when I go "off" I'm still at decent calories.

Thanks for that info. I will remember that when my scales are making me sad. :)

My winter diet evening foods are usually broth-based soups and hot tea. Liquids do the body good.

Argh..Minnesota also has long winters that are dark...but after Dec 21 the light will start coming back! A few seconds at a time...

You sure could. 12v car battery, DC alternator, 12v 5 farad capacitor and a 500 watt 110v inverter.

I agree Northern that the shorter days make it difficult. Fortunately I'm further south so it's not as cold. I run in the morning and sometimes I'm just cold. Good luck with your diet and training.

Interesting article about losing weight in the winter. I found the information about living the Canadian life interesting as well.

I developed a love of walking outside and can't bring myself to do it with the wind blowing at 22mph. The treadmill is okay, but love the outside.

Hello there! I am new to site. I am from and live in central Florida. I hate the summers here; I find I am much more active when the weather is cooler which is bad for me since it's always hot. At least it doesn't snow; that probably would change things :)

The cold weather causes our bodies to crave heartier foods as well to help us stay warm ... hearty foods are also a bit higher in calories and fat. Thanks for the info!

Not necessarily here. Even in summer. Up in Hyder Alaska several years ago, some guy was sleeping in a tent behind the bar and disappeared in the night. They never found him again. Grizzly tracks at the tent they did find. *shudder*
