losinit1655's Journal, 09 November 2015

I almost didn't even want to record/acknowledge this weigh-in as it feels like a 'false-negative.' (see 11/8 Journal Entry) This is EXACTLY why I HATE the Idiot Box as the little minx is toying with me again -- not to sound masochistic, but I was actually looking for (and 'needing' to see) a 'gain' to remind me of the consequences of going so off plan. Instead, I now have to resist the urge to feel 'invincible' and as though I have a magical, infinite 'Get Out of Weight-Gain Jail Free' card and instead say, "OK, I (apparently) dodged a bullet and don't have any 'damage' to undo and use that 'positive' to keep on keepin' on (plan and on point)." NO looking back and NO drawing any illogical and self-sabotaging conclusions from this result -- forward!

I'm trying to get a visual here. What are you holding in front of you as you charge forward? I feel you need something more fierce than a lone strawberry...

@Spiritspell You're right, how could I have forgotten! (My sister used to own several Rottweilers, one of which was named Excalibur.)

Maybe being under stress at work has had an effect? Standing back from this, I do find our reactions to weight gain and loss quite funny! Lol. Especially when we ask 'why', and often the answer is unknowable! Just take it and move on!

Stress will up your cortisol level and you will gain because the nasty cortisol lowers your metabolism. I used to say that if I was stressed I gained even if I was not eating, and the most current research confirms why that happens. Destressing will do wonders for any weight reduction plan,

@Heidi -- Your theory could be right . . . I think the stress precipitated the urge to binge, but also the extra anxiety may have burned more calories and limited the 'damage' after the fact? Though, of course, I've also heard the relationship b/w stress and weight gain that @kclab referenced. This week I've been so busy that I haven't really had the time to stress . . . or eat -- at least one of my daily intake entries looks like I'm trying to 'fast' and follow the 5:2 IF Plan! As you suggest "Who the heck really knows what 'moves' that scale in its various directions on any given day?" One other possible explanation: I delayed turning the heat on in my home until Sunday evening (it cooled off here considerably last week -- at least 'cool' for us born-and-bred Southerners) . . . maybe my body was working harder to stay warm! :)

Understanding the whims of body weight is one of the great unanswered questions of our time. I can only say keep those good habits up as much as possible and know that as long as your graph is going in the general right direction on the graph, you will eventually get there. Often the scale taunts me with a low weight and then I jump back up for a few days. I smile because I know I am settling toward that new lower weight. It takes patience and chill in' out.

You know WHY I call it the IDIOT BOX, right? LOL

@HCB -- Not specifically -- I didn't realize you were the 'author' (you should Trademark that, BTW!) . . . please share the 'origin story' when you've time!

@zaza -- Idiot Box is a popular nickname/term on this site for the scales . . .
