Damage report: Up 7 pounds from my lowest point.

I'm finally getting back to this site, and getting back on track. After my last half marathon I basically went crazy with food. In part because I usually celebrate with crazy food after a distance race, but mostly because I was going through some extremely stressful situations. I just stopped caring for a while, and ate junk for weeks. Ugh. I'm starting to turn things around now. Hopefully I'll be back on track and back to my lowest weight soon.

Moral of the story: Failure is inevitable. To everyone reading this that's just starting out... YOU WILL FAIL. It happens to everyone. No matter how hard you try to stay on track, something will eventually derail you. Just make sure you come back to your senses before it's too late.

In other news... my first full marathon is in two weeks, and I'm officially starting to freak out a bit. I know I'm trained for it, but I'm nervous because I don't really know what to expect. I'm also not sure what I'm going to do after that. I like running, but it takes a lot of your free time. I think I might move back to shorter distances (5Ks to 1/2 marathon distances) after I finish this race. I dunno. I'll see how it goes.

In other, other news... I put my Christmas tree up. HOORAY!

185.0 lb Lost so far: 80.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.
gaining 1.6 lb a week

Glad you're dusting yourself off and getting back on track. I am looking forward to hearing about your marathon.

I can't wait to hear about your marathon, too! I'm so excited for you! IMHO, it's only failure if you give up. That's not you! No, sir! You are back in control! Go, you!

Amryk's right. It's only failing when you've decided you're done. And I think during your time away from here you knew deep down you'd be back. You hadn't (I think) given up completely. And that is why you DON'T fail! You haven't thrown in the proverbial towel just yet. Neither have I. Despite my "indiscretions", I'm still working out, gaining and losing the same 2-3 lbs. Just gotta be stricter with my food intake. Way to go putting your tree up! We're going to be moving soon so hopefully we can get a little tree to put up at the new house. Yay!

DBZ thanks for this post. Exactly what I need. I am right there with you. I was down to 157 first of June. I am at 167 today's weigh in. I had been maintaining that 150-160 for a while, then due to frustration of not losing, I just kind of said what the heck and began eating bad, not exercising...well not that maintaining is becoming more and more gaining. I have put the brakes on and turning the vehicle around!!! We are back on track and now heading in the right direction again! Hang in there! What an accomplishment on your 1/2 marathon and upcoming marathon. I ran my fist 5K mid October and was so proud of my accomplishment. I never thought I would be able to finish in time for the awards to be announced yet I ran it in 39 minutes, which is awesome for me!

You are totally right. Everyone will fail. The difference is what happens when we know we're losing/have lost control. It's either "I've been here before and I know what I have to do," or "Oh my god I'm such a loser I can never do anything right. I'll never reach my goals. I'll never succeed, etc.." Sounds like you'll be fine. Congrats on the tree, and I think you'd be crazy to NOT be nervous about your first marathon.

@jcbag: Congrats on the 5K! It's always good to hear about other runners on here. I finished my first 5K last year with a similar time (I think around 37:30, but I'm not completely sure). It's amazing how fast you will improve if you stick with it.

If you really want to see The Road, watch it alone. Doesn't make it any less depressing if you watch it with someone else. LOL. I think I may start going to movies alone next year. I would probably get a lot more watched. Matinees, here I come!
