Thanks Heather! I have to remember that exercise is key, and I can't fall into the trap of eating more because I'm exercising more! LOL

Exercise helps a great deal. Just remember it's the calories, not the exercise.

It's just hard to get a good read on how many calories I'm burning. Just basing it on the time only in fat secret, doesn't really factor in how hard or how light I was working out. I've been thinking about getting a Body Bugg or Body media fit monitor to see how many calories I'm actually burning. It's just a big chunk of money to spend, in case I don't like it.

Congratulations on 2 pounds down - that is a happy number :) Another benefit of exercise is it changes the shape of things - I personally think toned bodies look much better than untoned bodies of any size! I have been enjoying noticing the shape of my arms and calves change. I know my tummy is too but there is still a little too much insulation there right now. here is a site that says it is the most accurate calorie burned calculator. http://www.healthstatus.com/ca... I always try to underestimate what I have burnt - that way I am more likely to be happily surprised :) I thought that a body bug would be cool too but they are pretty big!!! And of course expensive.

Brandy, you are working very hard, exercise is great you should be proud of how far you have come. As krystynecar says a toned body always looks much better. I just checked out the healthstatus web site it looks great...thanks.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is always awesome. I always toy with the idea of a body bug.. or bmf.. but then I am worried that I will be bummed by the information. I know that the 30 min I spend riding the bike is better than sitting on the couch doing nothing.. but then I worry what if the bugg or bmf says.. yeah.. you did not do that much.. I would be all crushed and stuff. :P and I worry that then I would be even less motivated to exercise "cause it was not that good" anyway.

Ohh... that's true Ceebee, I hadn't thought about it being discouraging, I was thinking that I'd then be able to work out and try to get to the number of calories burned that I wanted to before stopping or something like that.

I've seen mens watches bigger than my bmf, and I wear mine on my leg, not my arm, so no one even knows I have it on. I found it most beneficial in comparing different types of cardio to see which was most efficient, and for tracking activities impossible to estimate like housework and shopping. There is also a huge difference in calorie burn when I work from my office in the city vs. Working at home...all those little things like taking the stairs and walking to/from the car add up. I currently still wear it every day (with the exception of my waterpark vacay this weekend) and find it to be worth the $7 a month still, even though I don't make any decisions based on the readings. That is only because I'm happy with my diet/exercise program as it is and am not interested in changing it at this time. I do like that it gives you a great deal of control over your deficit, so if you like to keep that consistent, a bmf is an excellent tool.

See all the things kat says makes me want to get one.. but there is that small nagging voice in the back of my head saying "what if when you are on your bike and you really think you are killin it and in reality you are just really out of shape and not much is going on at all" I really would be bummed out. My sil has a bugg.. I should ask her if she still uses it.. and if not borrow it.

@Ceebee, it's useless without the website subscription, so unless she still has the subscription & will let you use her account, there's no point. And I know what you mean about the bike, but I can tell you that there have been days I exerted myself more doing less for no apparent reason other than it was a rough day, & burned more calories. The time/distance you do on the bike has less to do with what you burn than how hard your body has to work to do it!
