debrafrederick's Journal, 02 February 2015

It looks like I might have hit a plateau, been keeping on track, but had an uptick last week and a remained the same this week. Makes me wonder if the increase in physical activity is beginning to add some muscle mass? I will do some measurements this evening. I have been kinda lazy about keeping up with them....mainly because it requires taking off my clothes and looking in a mirror and viewing my jiggly sagginess in all of its glory. Not something I want to start my Monday off with, so it will be tonight after work. It may have something to do with my age, but I don't recall having all of this loose, flabby, jiggly skin hanging all over me in my previous weight loss endeavors. I added two tablespoons of unsweetened gelatin to my daily coffee (replacing the whey protein powder)and I have noticed an improvement to my skin....mainly my elbows, they are not black and scaly anymore. It's the best my elbows have ever looked, but as far as reducing the loose flapping skin, not so much. However, I am going to take this slowdown as a body adjustment period. I grabbed a lovely silk pantsuit that I have not worn in 10 years out of the closet and put it on, the top was longer than I remember, hitting me about two inches of the top of my thighs, but I could not wear the pants, the waist was so large that I could put my fist between me and the buttons and the legs were so long they dragged the floor. So....Wow! I need to find a seamstress who can take in silk garments. Still not discouraged and still not making any changes, I will update with measurements tonight. Ya'll have a great day!

Interesting, FS is showing a loss when my spreadsheet tracker is showing steady, I must have left out a point somewhere....

I too, have hit a plateau. My weight went up one pound last week and has remained the same this week. I am trying not to get too concerned about it as I know it's normal. Hopefully my body will adjust soon and begin to burn off the fat again. Hang in there!!! You are doing wonderfully!!!

I would look at the positive for today..." I agree with MPSARGE! You have lost inches which is more important than the scale!

Good for you. You may be exactly right about building muscle mass. It will affect your loss rate, but don't let that stop you. You are seeing a difference in your clothes so you are on the right track. As far as the skin, I can totally relate. As a nurse I can tell you that it is not likely that any loose flapping skin will return to its former shape :( I started at 321 and am now 227 and I have batwing arms and we won't talk about how far my stomach is sagging :) Put it out of your mind until you finish losing weight and then if it bothers you too much, check with a plastic surgeon and see what can be done and how much it will cost. Usually the first consultation is FREE and there are now places that will actually give you a loan for your medical procedures. For now, just concentrate on getting to your goal and remaining healthy. We are all pulling for you!!

Lost two in a mostly fatty area and gained 4 inches in the areas that I have been working out. So yeah, this is a body adjustment time and I am actually able to see the bicep so I am sure that my other gains are muscles in the making. :)

.....anyway, thanks guys for the support, I'm very happy with my progress so there is no beating myself up over this, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner or more often. The body is an amazing machine, but it has to pause and regain it's balance every once in a while. I am really trying to pay attention to it's signals and interpret what it is looking for. Some days I don't feel like much protein, so I assume my protein needs have been met. Some days I can't deal with anything green and all I want is meat and or cheese, those days I assume that more protein is called for. I don't get sugar cravings, but every once in a while when I smell fresh bread baking, I do start drooling a little. I do give myself treats of nutrient dense carbs with an occasional small half of a sweet potato, or a cup of field peas or butter beans, but for the most part: starch is avoided. This is usually no more than once a week. It's odd though, when I do that my stomach usually feels too full.

You have inspired me to break out the tape. I will be doing it tonight myself. You are doing so good. I find your writings inspirational when I am about to crack. I also crave protein. I made some beef jerky and keep it in the freezer. Because it has to thaw a little usually two small pieces can get me thru.

I have now lost 12.5 lb. I slipped last night with chineses food (the bad stuff). My body let me know all night! I have increased my excerise and that is causing med issues but I am trying to find a balance. I am trying to get me mind to allow me to see this is a long process (even though it seems to have come on over night). I am going to do it!!!!! And you are to!!
