Debbie Cousins's Journal, 16 August 2022

Nice surprise this morning - down 1.2 pounds to 244.2 from 245.4. Calories yesterday were 1,650 because I decided to add in two Russell Stover Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Cups for their digestive stimulation properties. Worked like a charm. (NEVER eat three of them at a time! Learned that the hard way!)

Made spaghetti with meat sauce yesterday. I had been guessing at what 2/3 of an Olive Garden dinner portion would be and recording 2/3 of a serving. I did a little research yesterday and found out that a serving is 525g. 2/3 of a serving is 346g, which was quite a bit more than I had been allowing myself. YIPPEE!!! My eyeballed portion wasn't quite satisfying enough, but the weighed portion is perfectly filling.

Broke down and bought a nice honeydew and some cherries (still $3.99/lb) yesterday. I shudder think what I would choose if I didn't have fresh fruit in the house. I have three types of cookies for my husband (one of which I really like) and there's still that box of Entenmann's Rich Frosted PopEm's Donut Holes nestled in the freezer.

I'm going to allow myself more food this week in the 1,500's and 1,600's (which mostly means larger portions of fruit) because I don't want to get a set point that is too low. I need my metabolism and body working WITH me, not against me. We'll see how it goes. I can always change back and forth as I evaluate how effective one plan is over another.

I love having my OWN diet plan. Nothing is really off-limits for me, if I eat a small portion of it and can work it in without going over 2,000 calories. I'm still getting to have 3 cans of Diet Coke a day, and my Dave's Killer Good Seed Bread toasted with generous (23g) butter TWICE a day! Lots of fruits and veggies makes this the healthiest diet plan I have been on in many years. It just didn't seem right allowing all that fat with Keto and denying myself the great fruits and vegetables God gives us, or even whole-grain healthy breads because of the carbs. I know Keto works because I've done it successfully in the past. But, for me, it was not sustainable.

The thing I've been really wanting lately is a slice of the delicious Carrot Cake from Pierce's BBQ in Williamsburg (about 50 miles away). I have driven there in the past, just to purchase a whole cake. That cost a pretty penny, indeed! It is chock full of nuts, and has a delicious cream cheese frosting and little flecks of candied carrot sprinkled on it. "Thankfully" the gas prices make it VERY unreasonable to justify the ride! Ok, that's what's in the little cartoon bubble above my head that I'm thinking about. Now, I can go back to "real life."

Congrats on the weight loss and so agree that its so helpful that we can tailor our diet each day to our personal choices! I make a mean pineapple carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Better shared with others lots of others. It's more thsn 700 calories a slice.

YIKES, @losingtowin1. I had no idea the carrot cake was THAT much. Maybe for my birthday (next June!) lol.

You're making great choices Debbie. There is no way I could have a whole carrot cake in the house. I'd go out with a friend and share a slice, much safer for me.
