So it's done. Youth group split really without our consent. And during last night's adult meeting after the first youth group split, hubby and I shared we've felt God letting us know this is our last year anyway before all this came down the pipes. We have prayed about this decision and offer to stay till 12/31/2014 as Jr UMYF leaders, and we'll either take the Winter Retreat trip with the kids/chaperone trip. We are offering to be substitutes and/or chaperones as needed after Jan 1, 2015. Thinking a letter explaining to the kids this week may be best. Of course, we're already considering a Bible Study for kids outside of church, but that's tbd. Basically, we're leaving on our terms. Pastor, who'd been there since July 2014 said "Oh, you've done such a great job with the kids, and going 4.5 years is way beyond the call of duty..." Seriously, he's gone on two day trips with us, and been to one Bible Study. Okay....whatever. It's our terms and not someone else's within the church.

Made chili last night and apple cobbler -- youth were all about it. Thinking of a fund raiser -- chili lunch at church -- in house only. What do you think?

It sounds like things went pretty well then for the split. I think a chili fundraiser is a great idea! I love chili though, so maybe I'm biased. :)

Been there, bought the tee shirt concerning youth groups. It seemed that every new pastor wanted to go in a different direction to increase the numbers, and Youth always seemed to be more about entertaining them to keep their interest. That always seemed rather superficial to me. Well, I know that everyone doesn't have the same opinion as me, but I think the bible can be even more captivating, and do a whole lot more for them. Kids are pretty smart, and they don't want a bunch of smoke and mirrors. They have questions and want answers. IMHO. Good luck with the direction God directs you.

"Kids are pretty smart, and they don't want a bunch of smoke and mirrors." Definitely. This is why the Traditional Latin Mass is becoming more popular with young people who dislike the attempt by churches to match the secular world of pop music and effervescent sentiment.

We started out with the "Not A Fan" lesson for Teens by Kyle Idleman (very good) and then we're headed for "God's At War" also by Kyle Idleman.

So sorry about the split; but if you and your husband have prayed about it and then listened to God's direction--which the outside bible study just might be it--then you don't have anything to worry about. My 22-year-old son and I are cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for the Methodist Children's Home in Clinton, Mississippi this year. We wanted to give something back to others this year. A chili fundraiser is a great idea! Do it these 3 three ways at the same time to appease different likes: chili in a bowl with crackers, chili dogs, frito pies--which is what most kids love!
