northernmusician's Journal, 25 August 2014

Okay. No idea what's going on. Out go the starchy carbs (after breakfast). Cut back to 23-2400 and see if this clears. It could be that the stress from July has come off and I'm heading back toward 'normal'. (No cracks out of you Rocker.)

You mean boo, you're in yellow again. Our bodies do what they want. I feel for you, you know what you need to do. Sleep 7,8 hours a night, drink lots of water, no late dinners, stick to your desired calorie intake and exercise.

Yep. It's all in the details and mindset.

Try loosing the bread and adding 50 g (pre cooked wt) of steel cut oats daily. Then out goes the Splenda with fibre (it uses dextrose aka glucose as a filler) which confuses your body; it tastes sweet and sends the signals for a hormone reaction to sweet but no sweet arrives. This may help but so will dropping your kcals by 200 - 300 daily for a week or two.

Also consider your daily activity. If you are eating the same calories and macros every day but not keeping your daily energy expendature consistent, this could ruin your idea of what your maintenance calories are.

Starchy carbs are a real diet buster. They also set you up for a craving.

Carbs are my nemesis !

While I'm in my premature maintenance phase my body weight goes up 2lbs and then back down to 139lb. So that's just probably your normal fluctuation pattern unless you start seeing a steady climb. You will be back in the green real soon. Hakuna matata

Deep breath, Go back to what you were doing when you were losing like gangbusters. It is only a few pounds - YOU CAN DO THIS!

I looked at your diet, your carbs are higher then your protein, get your protein, higher then your carbs each day and you will be back on track, I have read , that if you gain some weight, go for an all protein day the next day and that will help.

NM, Would you consider going back to your Zone Diet ratios for a while until you stabilize?

It's something to consider. I do like that diet. The problem with it is what's known as slop. Slop is where the lower two macros aren't considered in each food. For example, almonds are 25% protein, 25% carbs, and 50% fat. The only thing considered is fat. It might be interesting to try it though. The charts are designed so you don't have to count calories, but I easily could. Do the best I can, log the foods by weight to get all the macros actually in exact balance. It's just kind of finicky. That diet works wonders at higher weights. Hmm.... On the other hand I KNOW that dumping starchy carbs and increasing fats and proteins works. Also, the carb backloading works as well, and I quite enjoyed the carbs late in the day. I never missed them in the morning. Zone was kind of designed to keep insulin swings in check which isn't that big a deal for me at this body fat. It does also balances eicosenoids which are powerful little guys. *Sigh*. Now I have to rethink it all.

Will you have to give up your sweet tarts?
25 Aug 14 by member: ClassicRocker
I haven't had a sweetart since the beginning of July. Impressed? I still have about 10 rolls. :)

Why not? Am I supposed to be impressed. I thought the dextrose was part of your plan. I thought I read that someone on this thread mentioned dextrose and I thought, that's right up Bruce's alley.

Yeah, well... I'll likely use them again from time to time. Now is not the time. :) I love the crazy things.
