I agree. We just can't go through all of the work to lose and get healthy then forget about it. It is now a part of our lives, so we must be vigilant

Sometimes health seems like indentured servitude without a retirement plan, doesn't it? We all still die. But we have to choose how we want to feel while alive.

I that like... how we want to feel while alive.

Thank you Kathy .. I thought it was kind of brilliant too. I'm not sure if I read it or actually came up with my own motto. Regardless, I think I'll make it into a Meme.

As a 90+ yo woman told me one day re: birthdays, "it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative". I just wish for a relatively mild one.

You store your wood inside? And no spider/insect problems?

Firewood is a year round job in my neck of the woods... even though we only burn 8-9 months of the year. Splitting and stacking is a great workout.

I actually do "woodcutters" with a dumbbell as part of my ab exercises. That twisting motion like swinging that axe is great for the oblique muscles. Lifting the lever on the hydraulic log splitters, not so much....

We used to heat with wood, it was a year round job making sure we had enough for a bad winter. Good exercise!! But hard work.

We have a big shed out back. We have about a half years supply in there. We need to get cutting and I'd like to have a couple years on hand. The wood we take is standing dead. We're in the middle of the pine beetle infestation in British Columbia. Eventually the stuff will be unusable. Then we really have to be ahead of the game so it can season properly. Love the wood heat. We also have a gas furnace. Try to keep it for nights only, but when it gets down around -25 to -30, everything runs.

Isn't it awful what those beetles have done to the pines? DD lived amongst it in Colorado. It does make some amazing interesting wood for building things. My SIL in south mo. Has kiln dried some and it's on a wall in their log house, it's beautiful.

I love the eternal vigilance quote. It resonated with me this morning.
