My weight is dropping steadily since I have increased my exercise to 1 hour a day. I am not surprised since the only exercise I had done before I made this change was walking from my car to school and back. I am using a 45 minute at home walking workout DVD that is challenging, but terrific for rainy days like today.☂

Wednesday, I enjoyed a lovely trip to Linville Falls and the Linville Caverns. I went on the moderate trail and loved every minute of it. I was not winded at all! Years ago I would never have attempted to walk on a trail because I would have been tired just thinking about it. Now I have more energy than I know what to do with. I think the benefits of weight loss (more energy and better health) outweigh a cheeseburger and fries any day!

Great info! I'm gonna try some low level exercise because I've been vegging on the couch the whole summer, depressed. But last few days I'm tired of being depressed! I'm coming back. Thanks for encouragement!

Walking is great!! I live in northeast Ohio so for about 5 months of the year it is too cold and the snow is too deep to walk the trails, but from about late April through Thanksgiving the weather here is beautiful. The metro park system builds, maintains and monitors a system of nice trails for walking and biking. I take my dog every day for a nice mile walk (Mutt Mitts are provided for cleanup and everybody respects the trails enough to use them), and all the trails are marked "Turn around here for 1/4 mile", etc... Everybody on the trails is friendly and the people with dogs know enough to not bring the dog if it is not social. The people on the stretch of trail I walk all know my dog now and they stop and greet her. It's really a nice thing about this area, and I assume a lot of cities have similar trails set up. I never got that interested in the number of steps, because a guy 6'6" with a longer stride is going to use less steps than I do at 5'7". I just care that I keep a brisk pace for the whole mile to keep my heart rate up. I need it, the dog loves it... win - win for me. Keep at it!!

It's nice to be able to spend time like this. With your pet and meeting people you know along the way.Even the thought of enjoying the coldness seems inviting me. I live in a tropical country, and cooling weathers like this is hard to come by. Treasure those walks you have there!
