Swam again yesterday, in the sun. Much more pleasant. Also turned up the heat when I got in. Huge difference in the enjoyment factor. The whole point of swimming for me is that it's good for me and I enjoy it. Yay! Some minor changes for the new year: I have changed my tracking app, so no more warm up, fat zone, etc. I have moved to a five tier system with one being chill and five being about to pass out from exertion. Note that I have taken some liberty with those descriptions, but you get the idea.

Swim was good. 10.6 METs, 850 strokes, average heart rate 154. Decent exertion and I'm getting the strokes back up to the PR range. I almost did a second set, but decided not to just yet. That's coming before the end of this month.

Took a super short walk with the dogs yesterday, too, but it wasn't enough to count for much.

Some thoughts for the new year and some goals. Not giving up walking dogs, that's a survival thing and we're good for one another. when I say survival, I mean my house, furniture, etc. they don't have "off" switches and they need exercise, too. So we'll set that to the side.

Last year had a number of significant setbacks for what I wanted to do, so all those are pushing forward to this year. I'm going to work on improving my cardio and getting that VO2 back up to where it was when I got sick in September. Not obsessing over that, I'm looking at my exertion chart for the year and it was a big hit on my ability to do what I wanted to do. I don't usually come into the November - February dark months with that much of a setback and I think that has contributed to where I am right now. I was looking at my hiking mileage and that was down a lot, too. just didn't have the strength to get into the hills and do it when it's the best time of year to do it. Swims were also down from the year before. The only thing I did more of was treadmill. thank goodness that I kept it in the family room where it's hard to ignore.

Mileage goals for the year are to get back above 50 miles a month average just walking the dogs. Did that in 2020, it got skewed the last three months of 2021. I can't change the weather (working on it) but I can treadmill at speed for 45 minutes easily at this point, even in the summer heat. Walking is obviously the default option because it has to be done and I need to find a new basic route that keeps us out of trouble after dark. Might do some more daylight walking even though we have to deal with more people and dogs that way.

Swim goals are to hit 15 days a month. That's harder than it seems with work, dogs, weather, etc., but that's the goal.

Food is easy once I run out of the party food. I like what I like and I hate shopping. I love the Instacart "buy it again" button. I do want to hit the farmer's markets again. Life isn't all about kale but I'm glad I love it. Spinach is back in my life, too. Yay. I've been eating more fruit and fish, too. Going to pull back on carbs and keep them under 100. Protein goal will be 100. Fiber is 24.

Spent way more time on this than I expected. Guess I'm in a thinking mood. Vacation days good, let brain recover.

Finally, I have another close friend who tested positive for Covid last week. Her family has recovered, she is having a tougher time. Need prayers for this one as I don't like what she's telling me. I really, really want this to be over. She is double-vaxed. I told her to get an oxygen saturation monitor yesterday. Hope she follows through on that and I hope she turns the corner on the virus quickly and recovers. Using teledoc thing.

Time to walk away from the computer for the day. Enjoy this gorgeous Sunday.

She just popped up an hour ago, just extremely fatigued. I made her promise to go to ER if she feels like she’s getting worse and not try to power through.
