FitOKay's Journal, 13 May 2014

Starting the day earlier then normal. Normally I don'have time to enter weight and journal til around noon. Woke up a bit after 5am with some breathing issues. Didn't get to sleep til after 1am. Glad I did an hour biking when I couldn't sleep last night. Doubt I'll be biking again today. Not sure what my peak flow was on waking, immediately did a nebulizer and my peak flow just now is 350, making the morning peak flow somewhere in the lower 300s. No idea what's to blame for the sudden drop. It stormed last evening so mold count might be up, but I honestly don't know. It stormed a few days ago and my breathing was fine... seems so arbitrary sometimes. Still, 350 is ok, as long as I can get my peak flow to 350 I'm generally fine, just no serious exercise =p So, comparitively speaking, all is well.

Hope Everyone Else is having a wonderful Tuesday!

I hope that your breathing issues get better for you. I do have a question though, what do you mean by your peak flow ?? Have a great day.

Sherrie, Peak Flow Meters are small (half a foot to a foot long depending on brand) cylinder or rectangular box like medical devices that... sort of take the place of PFTs in a home environment. Obviously we can't take the big PFT machines home with us, and while peak flow meters don't give the same precision of measurement and range of measurements, it still serves and important function. It basically measures the force of air you are able to expell from your lungs. Befor I was ill I would sometimes get readings up around 550, but my normal was closer to 520ish. Similar to now with how I occasionally get readings as high as 450, but usually in the lower 400s are my good days. The peak flow meter gives asthmatics and the doctors who see them a fact based way to track how their lungs are doing on a day in and day out basis. It also makes ER visits much easier- if you go into an ER and say I have trouble breathing, or even my peak flow is 230 (which for some people might be normal) it's going to be a very different reaction then if you go in and say- My peak flow high is 450 and I'm at 230 right now. I've always had a high peak flow value(most asthmatics have lower then normal values even at their highest, my older brother and I both have/had unusually high readings- especially for having severe asthma. No one really knows why); however, because of the damage in my lungs from the last few years my peak flow has reduced- ironically bringing me nearly on par with a most women's peak flows for my height and age... unfortunately that doesn't mean I'm getting the same oxygen supply or have the same lung function as the average almost 30 year old woman does =p

Have you ever thought about the benefits that massage could bring for your breathing and overall health?
