Change in diet (eating later in the day) has impacted my weight slightly in the mornings. Reading some very interesting things right now on weight loss and timing of carbohydrates. It would appear that we are more insulin sensitive in the morning, meaning insulin will rise quickly, and without exercise, morning carbs are more likely to be stored as fat. This apparently also works when you're bulking for muscle gain. Lots to learn.

Ive decided to try out carb back loading. Going low carb all day until post workout, and then taking in a good amount of simple carbs then. Going to see if it works better or worse than straight low-carb for cutting. Trial started saturday and will go for 6 weeks. My brother-in-law has done it before and said it worked well for him, and he feels he lost less muscle cutting that way.

An old room mate was a personal trainer/national guard (really, really into fitness and body building) and he swore by running first thing in the morning befor eating. I use to run with him when we were room mates, but switched back to an after breakfast run later. Personally I didn't really notice a difference either way but it is really interesting all the info out there and science on the hows vs whys.

CALYN I agree. I think the big bonus of that approach though is that you have a plan to get in the first work of the day before the day begins. I think that's the main positive. -- CR. I'm a nutjob when it comes to reading everything and trying new things. It gives me a broader base for all my writing. -- CHADLIUS Are you going into ketosis before starting the back load? I didn't bother. It may have some benefits. Ask you BIL about it. I'm thinking that just the simple fact of moving the carb load later in the day when you're more insulin resistant would be beneficial. I never liked breakfast. 11 AM is good enough for me. That's how I used to start my day. I've never minded skipping meals or going light during the day either. I thing the CBL while staying inside my macro/calorie goals should work.

I found that eating later at night tends to give me higher weights in the morning, even if my net loss remains the same by the end of the month. This is just depressing, so I'm sticking with trying to finish eating my no later than 6PM when possible, so it's not strange at all to me that you're getting these little tweaks on your weigh-ins.

I agree. I'm not surprised by it either. If however something as simple as eating carbs in the evening after a workout my increase glycogen stores and reduce fat stores, is it possible a month later I might be slightly lower? Of course, the only way I could be sure would be to find a second Bruce to go the other way and do exactly the same thing. We should all do what works for us. Of course, being in the place where I'm trying to gain is quite different from wanting to lose weight. Glad you're back on track MM.

Makes sense to me. Mrsmole, I am the same way. If I eat in the evening I will always weigh more the next morning.

Chad. Just did some research and for me, doing a density bulk, it's not necessary. Looks like you should. What's your take.

Yeah, NM. I have been doing this since saturday. Friday Morning I weighed in at 174.4, this morning I weighed in at 178. Its obviously not fat, because I'm at the same deficit I was at when I was losing. My body is just storing water and carbs to use throughout the day today, which it will run out very quickly, and begin feeding off the fat that I eat throughout the day. In theory, since I'm at a deficit, it will have to dive into my fat stores during my workout tonight, and I will feed it carbs after that to do it all again tomorrow. Sound theory, we will see what the next several weeks bring. The number on the scale isn't important anymore so the flucuations don't bother me.

I personally am working my way back to a Ketogenic state. I did it for a while and just got sloppy, but I never felt better. For go eating breakfast… First meal would be at about 10:30, and little to no carbs what so ever. Force body to switch to burning ketones for energy instead of carbs. Far more efficient and longer lasting.

Thanks, Ryan. Appreciate you posting. I'm doing the same type of thing. I'm in the DB stage, but never 'went' into ketosis. According to Keifer it's not required for the DB stage. Breakfast is 15 gr pp, a tbsp MCT and a quad shot of espresso. Actual food breakfast at 11, lunch about 2:30, workout 4:30. At 5:30 I spike the insulin with something 'dirty' (sweetarts, cake, or sugar crisp - first carbs of the day) then have my supper with carbs, and snack on carbs in the evening. Late night, a bit of protein. Honestly, I've never enjoyed myself as much with food before. Went a little crazy the first couple of days on 'dirty carbs'. I got that crazy period out of my system and now I'm being a little more reasonable. It's nice to be able to have the indulgences and have them work for me. Of course, it's all dependent upon the exercise. I could never eat this way if I were sedentary.
