Debbie Cousins's Journal, 11 June 2021

Day #41 - Still feeling great. Physical Therapy was grueling yesterday. Really exhausted afterward. The therapist has me do a full array of exercises at home, but when I go in to the rehab center, she adds other things in that use special equipment or bands. Yesterday wiped me out, BUT, I picked up my grandson to help my daughter be able to get caught up on packing for their big trip to Montana. I will be keeping the little guy for about 5 hours again today - three days in a row. I tend to drink more Diet Coke when I have him, but I also managed to drink 9 cups of water yesterday.

Lost 1/2 pound this morning. Eight more pounds to go in 17 days. Down 52 pounds for the year. My stomach is feeling much smaller, I don't sweat as much with activity, I even walked up 5 stairs yesterday, putting only one foot on each stair. The stepping exercise that the therapist had me do, though, left me huffing and puffing!

Can't remember if I entered my Journal entry before I found this out yesterday, but after that giant rainfall night before last, my pole green beans have little tiny beans on them (like 1" long). They're SO CUTE!!! Wonder how long it will take them to get to pickin' size? I sure hope there will be enough of them to dirty up a pot to cook them in!

70-80% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, so no swim lessons for the kids. Thankfully, they got in one on Wednesday. They'll be gone all next week, so it'll be two weeks before they get another lesson. I wish my grandson had gotten just a little better at floating or treading water before they head to Montana with a big LAKE at the Dude Ranch where they'll be staying. Praying my daughter will heed my warning that he needs somebody within arms reach of him if the water is too deep for him to stand. My brother drowned when he was 11, so the danger is all too real for me.

Thanks for joining me for this episode of "The Life and Times of Debbie Cousins." Tune in again tomorrow, same bat-time, same bat-channel!

WOW, @ridemariel, I'm so envious! Mine are pretty puny because I didn't use new soil this year, and they apparently needed a change (3rd year of planting in same soil). I only put an inch or two of new soil on top of the old. Won't make that mistake again.

Glad you are down a half pound. Your brother drowning gives me chills. We had a fenced pool when our children were young but on Mother's Day there were a number of people over for dinner, and my husband had the gate open working on the filter. I asked him to close the gate but he refused. We found our 18-month-old son floating face down. We were "all" supposed to be watching him as I was preparing dinner. That doesn't work. One person needs to be assigned to that task and then rotate. My husband was able to give him resuscitation and bring him back, but the memory of my hysteria is horrible.

Nice work. Don't forget to check out "kneesovertoesguy" on the knee-hab. Dudes legit. Works for all ages and abilities.

OMG, @Snowwhite100 - what a tragic story. Glad everything worked out in the end, but I'm sure it isn't something you get over. My brother didn't know how to swim, and my parents would only let him go into the Colorado River in Mexico when my dad was with him. They even made him wear his shoes in the water so he wouldn't cut his feet on anything. My dad was only about ten feet from him, turned around and he was gone. Took about 20 minutes for us to find him. One of his shoes was off, so we figured he had gotten his foot stuck on a root or something, fell and couldn't get up.

Drowning is a serious concern this time of year. I saved a girl off the bottom of a river beach. I was swimming laps and there she was on the bottom. Her whole family of non-swimmers was screaming at the river's edge. Everybody should learn to swim!

Even though I have been diligent about making sure that my children and grand children learn to swim, I only taught MYSELF to swim about three years ago. Before then, I could float on my back (if the water is still), but I couldn't tread water or actually propel myself forward. I still cannot open my eyes underwater or put my nose in the water without getting choked. I'm a work in progress. Maybe I'll work on those things this year.
