morganstuart's Journal, 21 May 2021

I had an embarrassing childhood growing up. I was an overweight kid. I was wearing women's clothes at age 8. I guess I could say I had steadily got bigger over time. I had tried many diets over the years and nothing seemed to help. So I had been trying to get myself ready for my next doctor appointment after this one. I am hoping to get qualified for weight loss surgery. I was wanting the bypass. The reason why I know I need the tool to help me keep track of what I am doing, finally reach my goal weight. It's my last resort option since I have a hard time with it on my own. I hope I can do it though.
323.2 lb Lost so far: 24.6 lb.    Still to go: 163.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Hi! ☀️ You are already making amazing progress! Just the decision to start losing weight and setting goals for yourself is a big step and should be celebrated! Our size doesn’t determine our beauty or our worth, we came into this world already worthy and beautiful and no one or nothing can change that fact! 💕 P.S I started looking it not as a diet or fad to lose weight because we all know that sure diets can help us lose weight but once we stop we gain it back because they don’t teach us “real world” eating skills. However small choices that are sustainable in the long run to change your lifestyle that’s what will allow you lose weight and keep it off. Once i realized that I started making healthier choices that I can sustain and the weight started coming off and staying off.

I want to encourage you... a “diet”, a surgery, a macro plan... none of it will work sustainably for life until daily habits are changed. So, be sure v you are diving into daily food and activity habits before you do anything. 💛

I had to face lots of emotional reasons for both putting on the weight and keeping it on. Once I started dismantling the emotional reasons why the weight was "keeping me safe" I was able to begin letting go slowly. Good luck in all aspects of your journey. keep us updated 💞

There is no shame in a bypass and it can be extremely effective for people who have struggled with weight for a long time. Wish you the best.

👋morgan...ur progressing, an indication of ur hard work n mindfulness so far❣ I echo Erq's words; cc too. For me - barring any underlying health issues - any surgery would b a last choice.

I understand totally. I have fought my weight my entire life. I may be close to goal now but inside is still that person that was 120 lbs heavier, and I still could fall in all the same traps!! You do what ever works for you. If my insurance covered bariatric surgery I would have given it a shot because I lose very slowly, and jump back up after a loss! But my thyroid is perfect. My doctor should live with it a month!! See what he weighs after that month!! Ha! So best of luck!! Can’t wait to see your future success because you are really doing fabulous now!!👏👏👏👍🎉

If you're struggling with only consuming 1500 cals/day because the portion sizes feel too small -- and you can't or won't commit to this long-term, the surgery will definitely force you make this necessary adjustment. And if your doctor is concerned that you will have a heart attack or stroke at any moment, please consider their advice regarding the surgery with the seriousness of your life at stake. I agree with Erq1 regarding therapy, since this requires your mind to fully commit to change.

May I suggest a book? Penn Jillet (from Penn and Teller magicians in Vegas) lost 100 pounds. His journey was much like yours with his Doctors wanting to do a stomach sleeve. His book, Presto! Is about his journey. His language is “salty” but his story is well worth reading.

the gastric bypass is a game changer. I am with ya - was 150 lbs at 10 years old - kids can be cruel - took me 6 years to get off 30 lbs and still continually feel fat. gained a bunch when I had my daughter and it took 10 years to get it off and still not back to a weight I am comfortable with. Hope you find a whole new beginning of enjoying things even more than you do now. The 1st step is not accepting it any more and finding an answer that works for you. It truly is harder than just eating less.

Loosing weight may be hard, but those childhood emotional scars are even harder to heal. Your FS family is with you 100%
