Debbie Cousins's Journal, 17 May 2021

Down 1/2 pound this morning - Day #15, 18 pounds lost (39 for the year). My daughter-in-law brought us a 1/2 pound box of See's candy from her trip to CA. I LOVE See's candy, and would always bring home 1/2# boxes to my son, daughter, and husband (plus their suckers for the grandkids). Well, there was this one particularly delicious-looking piece, and I thought I could just chew it a bit to get some flavor out of it and then spit it out. And that's what I TRIED to do, but it sorta just disintegrated in my mouth, and there WASN'T anything to swallow. I really did not mean to actually EAT the piece of candy, but in effect that's what happened, and it knocked me out of ketosis.

(Someone had asked in a previous journal entry how I could be in ketosis while fasting. I think it is because ketosis is actually the process of burning fat when there are no carbs to burn - since I'm not eating anything, all of the energy it takes for activity and normal bodily functions like breathing, heart beating, etc. are already being powered by the "stored fuel" I have conveniently stored in my belly, hips, thighs, and back boobs.

Normally, if an accident like consuming a piece of chocolate had occurred, I would say, "Well that blew the fast - I'm done with it," and I would go on a months-long binge. Praise the Lord, that didn't happen this time! I realized that I had not intentionally sabotaged my fast, and just continued as usual. This is a BIG God gift! It goes against every way I have operated in the past, and I praise God for the victory! SO, I'll say, "I'm on Day #15 (with an accidental ingestion of a piece of candy," and then I will put it completely behind me and move on.

Thanks again to everyone who supports me and comments on my posts. I appreciate you being involved in my life, and I thank God for the encouragement you all give.

Sees candy yummy!! I used to buy a pound for my grandma, I would then carefully unwrap it and take out a couple pieces and then rewrap and shake the box and it will look full again.😄 Sees candy!😋 Have a Marvelous Monday Debbie!🌸

It's about progress not perfection.

Yes, I support you. Let it be water under the bridge. I can understand, but even if you had chewed it and spit it out you would have gotten almost as many calories. It was not in accordance with your end of June goal. The danger (to your addictions) was the worst part. Wait till after the important challenge that means so much to you. Let's not tempt fate, it's just not worth it. It's over, but you may be up a little the next day or two. Thank the Lord you can carry on!

Point taken, @Snowwhite100. I was UP half a pound this morning. I know that the one piece of candy didn't have 1,500 calories, but it must have caused me to retain some glycogen. You're right, I can't afford to stray from my goal. Thanks for the tough love. Thanks, everyone else, for your encouragement.
