I'm closer to Onederland. I feel pretty good.

This week's plan: Zumba 3 days a week, Walk/jog 3.5-5 miles each night, weights 2 times a week. Gonna keep doing what I am doing as far as food intake and exercise because it seems to be working. I just have to keep my patience in check.

I am entering a 5K for Saturday morning as well I believe. I haven't registered yet. May try to talk my husband into doing it with me. If not, my son, his girlfriend and girlfriend's mom likely will anyway. Wish I could bring my dog along though. I may call and see if I can. It is a 5K to raise money for a homeless shelter. Glad to contribute my funds and my sweat.

Yesterday, my 17 yr old son asked me for advice. I must admit I was taken off guard as generally in my experience 17 year old know everything already. Nevertheless, I was pretty flattered. He had been sidelined from football for about four weeks due to a head injury. He has been back at it the last two weeks, but was a little disappointed because he had picked up a few extra pounds while he was off practice/games. He had tried running distances during that time, but really was not doing it with enough consistency to be meaningful. And, he kept eating like he was an NFL linebacker. Now, he is back in the game but has lost some agility, speed, etc. He confided that he wanted to drop 20 pounds in the next few months and wanted some help doing it. I suggested that he increase his water intake, get rid of all the sweet tea and apple juice he drinks and stop eating school lunches. I also introduced him to fatsecret to track his calories and exercise.

This morning, I was happy to get up early to prepare his breakfast and pack him a lunch. Apparently it is very uncool to bring a lunch from home. And, I realize that school lunches are suppose to be healthier. But, frankly, I am told that most days the kids were being served chicken strips, pizza, potato tots and other carb-laden foods. My son informed me that there was a salad bar and he was mostly eating from that daily, but was not really eating any proteins for breakfast or lunch. In any event, I mentioned to my son something to the effect of "Are you sure you want to bring a lunch from home? Isn't it uncool to not eat the school lunch?" To which he reminded me that it is far more "uncool" to lose agility, be slow and gain weight. So, I prepped his lunch, which compared to my daily lunch was quite a bit of food. But, I was happy to pack him fresh baby carrots, a banana, almonds and walnuts along with a sandwich on low cal bread. It reminded me of when he was in second grade and it was cool to bring your lunch to school in a sponge bob square pants lunchbox. It aches my heart to think that he will soon be considered an adult. I don't feel old enough to have an eighteen year old. And, I don't feel like I want to stop letting him be my baby. Eh...anyway....I am flattered that he actually thought enough of me to ask me to help him get his weight straightened out. I'm also amazed that he was able to down 34 ounces of water with his breakfast as quickly as he did. I struggle to drink that much water over several hours at times. I guess he is used to guzzling water on the field.

Ok. Time for me to get my Zumba done, get a shower and get to work.

May you all have a fantastic week of healthy living.

WTG, 2MC!!! Go go go!!! You are so close! I hope you clinch it by next weigh-in! It is so amazing to watch our kids grow up, isn't it? One day you're bringing them home for the first time, and the next thing you know they are real people with opinions and ideas--and plans! Ugh. Probably the only thing in the world that gives us such an odd mix of both dread and pride. Anyway, good luck with the 5K, and BEST WISHES getting to one-derland! :D You'll be there very soon. You're just inches from it.

Thank you for the encouragement, Rob. I'm going to really hammer down this week to lose 3.6 pounds. I hope the 5K will really help move me right along with it. My son is running it with me...or should I say ahead of me since I'm usually left in his dust. He is growing up...and I truly have mixed emotions about all that.
