Cindy Thompson's Journal, 14 January 2011

Trying to vary my food intake. I don't like the word diet as it has a negative vibe with me. Even though everyone is on a diet of some sort. Even if it's the icecream diet. Lol Have given icecream up for good. That is what put alot of the weight on to begin with.

I'm up one pound. I'm sure that I will go back the other direction. Won't get flustered by fluctuation.

Going home this afternoon on the Amtrak. Still need to finish packing. I even have my dinner packed for the train. Don't need anything calling my name that isn't part of the plan.

Hope all my buddies are warm, or cool, and having a great Fatsecret day!

Well done on planning ahead Cindy! And for the record I never lose weight if I use the word diet as I feel deprived! Lol

Would like to say that I have made some of your yummy soup for the trip home, but haven't made any yet. I packed a salad with chicken breast for dinner. Lunch is salad with shrimp. Haven't had any shrimp for awhile. Trying to shake things up a bit.

I see the term "Diet" as something that we do to deprive ourselves in order to lose weight. We shouldn't feel like we are depriving ourselves on Atkins as there are so many foods that we can eat. There are also creative substitutes for those things we shouldnt. I like to look at carbs as being something I am allergic to. I know I cannot have bread just like some people cannot consume shell fish, strawberries, or nuts. This really needs to be a way of eating for a healthy way of life. We will always be carb sensitive. That will never change.

Thanks Evie and Leanne for stopping by my journal. Hope you gals are having a great day. I'll check on journals as time permits today, still packing.

That's right Keli! Atkins doesn't make me feel deprived most of the time. So...I'm allergic to bread, icecream...etc, etc, etc. LOL

Smart girl you are! You packed your own dinner so that you don't need to look for second best. Have a healthy Friday!

Thanks Lily! Did anyone ever want second best? May have had to settle for it many times, but enjoy having the best when I can. Hope that all my buddies don't settle for second best either!

I don't like the term diet either. For one thing it means to most of us, that we are "on" a diet, or "off." That "off" part is what makes us gain weight back. So, we all need to think of it as our nutritional way of eating. Not very catchy though is it, LOL?

When family uses the word diet I correct them and say that it is a way of life. So many people cringe at the word 'diet'. Why don't people say something like..."You are looking good. You must be eating right." instead of..."Are you on a diet?" Well, it may not be catchy, but nutrition is better than the heavy carb way I used to eat.

I so know what you mean about the work "diet". It doesn't settle well with me either. It sounds like it is temporary. Not temporary with me. It is my new WOL. As long as we have that mind set, we will conquer it. Tavel safely and enjoy your weekend.:) HUGS

Thanks Laurie! We have changed our way of thinking and we will conquer it! Have a great weekend everybody! Love and Hugs{{{}}}

Cindy, I am not on a diet, it is lifestyle change...sometimes it isn't easy and sometimes I cannot eat the foods that I would like to eat (they aren't good for my body, and I know this because when I eat them, my body feels awful), but I am making the food choices that I kno will lead me to healthier life, and "that's a good thing" (as Martha would say). Hope that our trip back to N. ILL is a safe and unventful one, and great job packing your dinner. {{Hugs}}},sis, and have a great weekend! WE CAN DO THIS WITH GOD'S HELP...and the support of our buddies!!

I love what Keli said about being "allergic" to carbs. That is a good way of looking at it. Also, Stef, I remember a while back you wrote that your body is carb intolerant - and you shared the adverse affects of carbs on your health, other than weight gain. That comment really resonated with me - because I, too, am carb intolerant and I know that I am because I've got myself into quite a fix by eating the "healthy American diet", coupled with PCOS which packs on pounds like humps on a camel. This is not a "diet" for me either. It is a complete lifestyle change.
