Midnight cookie making with my middle daughter! She spent the night and there was a "need" for baking! We only had a handful of chocolate chips, so one only was added to the top of each cookie. We added a small amount of oats to the batch instead, which gave a nice texture without making them "oatmeal" cookies. I was well over on calories for the day especially since I normally don't even eat anything in the evenings let alone in the middle of the night! :)

I love this! My daughter hates chocolate but loves the brown sugar/ butter cookie base that makes up chocolate chip cookies. I used to make "chocolate chipless" cookies for her when she was having a rough day.

Did you get some sleep?

Yes, Atriel2! I have a couple kids who prefer the "chocolate chipless" cookies. Haha! Great name! This is the old standby recipe base they have helped me make since they were tiny. Whomever is baking gets to decide if the chips are added! ❤️

Daughter at home, baking with mom, midnight? Who cares! Love your heart for your kiddos Melissa. It’s very much like my heart for mine. 🥰🥰 Now, let your beautiful heart share this wonderful recipe. 😉

Hahah, Canadian ace, I got a little! 😁 I couldn't keep my eyes open around 1:30! Precious kid doesn't have to work today, so she is still snoozing on the couch, but my internal alarm got me up a long time ago!

Yeah, I go back tonight. Lol, work five shifts, then off another week. But quality time with the kids is worth it.

I absolutely could have eaten less cookie dough! 😁 But, it is such a blessing to spend time with my kids. To have all five sleeping under the same roof with me all safe and loved is a gift like no other! The recipe isn't very special. It is just one I sorted out from a few different ones that works really well for me, but you are welcome to it. We just made half the batch last night. I pound butter, 1c brown sugar, 1c white sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 1 tsp cream of tartar, 2 tsp baking soda, 4c flour. We added some oatmeal... Well rolled oats. I normally would add a couple cups of chocolate chips. 😁 ❤️

Thanks!! Nice recipe. Do you ever use whole wheat flour?

Yummy! I too made sugar cookie dough for family cookie exchange we do every year. I have a feeling this year will be hard for me to maintain weight...I'm not doing well...

Thanks, damablack! sk, a few! 😁 I never have, wifey. I'm sure it would be good! However, when creating an indulgent goody, I rarely try to make it more "healthy." 😁 Diana, I too fear the holidays on that score. I did gain some last year, but quickly returned to maintance weight in January. I wish I had more self-control when it comes to special treats that are all around this time of year. I earnestly try to be moderate in my consumption, but I also will not beat myself up when I celebrate. This is hard, but we can do it!!! ❤️

They are cute with the single chocolate chip! Great idea adding oatmeal. Cookies are dangerous for me. I can't stop at one! Especially hot right out of the oven. So great you spent time with your daughter that way! How fun!!!

Yum. Unfortunately, I can't eat them responsibly 😀😅

Lots of good memories of baking cookies with my children, but never at midnight. I love that lonely little chocolate chip perched right in the middle. 💝
