Good swim last night, I thought we were going to have thunderstorms all afternoon, but when the clouds broke, I decided to just go for it (I also stopped every 500 to make sure nothing had changed) and knock it out. went for a little more speed, 850 strokes, average heart rate upper 140s, 10.5METs which I think is just a notch over yesterday, but I don't have it in front of me. spent 12 minutes in peak, and 11 in cardio. didn't feel like that, I felt really good, but whatever. just looked at heart rate, while I got it up there, never exceeded 157, so it was just on that cusp of being in peak. that's just another thing to work on, I guess.

in this latest return from injury, I'm doing some stuff right and doing some wrong. I've been paring back my calories carefully the last couple of days, I ditched my almonds and my beloved dark chocolate chips. don't worry, not depriving myself, just switching things up plus I don't like grocery shopping. I've decided to do another 30 days of swim and I still have to walk the dogs because they don't fit neatly (or quietly) in a corner of the room like the treadmill.

numbers as of this morning below, I'm a little annoyed, but I also remind myself scales can be gamed and it's probably mostly water retention, not really fat given what I'm doing physically. pants still fit.

there is some drama in the background, but it'll be fine, just focusing on the things I do have control over.

last night's sunset. phone camera is good, but doesn't totally capture the saturation of color. it was more blood red and spectacular. I really love this time of year for sunsets. there's nothing for the longest time and then an explosion of color for just a few minutes as the sun hits the open sky between the clouds and the edge of the horizon because of the ocean. so while I don't really have an ocean view, I do have ocean sunsets. not enough for the green flash though. need an unobstructed view for that.

Edit for mid-day update because it shows what I mean by "gaming the scale" although it's not intentional on my part, just showing people how it can change during the day. This is after breakfast, two cups of coffee and a 20 oz flask of water. Did I gain that much fat overnight? Nope. Did I gain muscle this morning sitting at my desk? Nope. It's just another tool I use to watch trends. if I couldn't zip my jeans up, I'd be more worried.
