Katsolo's Journal, 20 June 2020

Kinda long, no idea why. Feel free to skip. Last night's swim was #33. I ordered the clear goggles so I feel better swimming in the dark.

Not unsurprising on the gain, no regrets, muscle mass holding and that was a really good swim if I do say so myself. I was frustrated yesterday and I powered through the whole session. I am going to walk and swim today, gotta get the miles in to meet the mileage goal. I didn't realize there were only 30 days this month (I know it, I just didn't pay attention) so I gotta hustle.

I don't usually watch TV in the day, but I turned it on this morning and am watching the very first episode of "A Cook's Tour" on Amazon visiting Tokyo. Really makes me want good sushi - the antithesis to that lovely pizza last night. One of my favorite sushi restaurants is offering "experiences" in order to comply with distancing rules. I think I'm going to look into that as a treat at some point. Will need to find a sushi date for that one. Back to the point that I almost lost - focus on the quality, not the quantity.

Today will be fruit and veggie heavy, bought a couple of mini melons and a pineapple yesterday, so will need to get through them this week. I also got AVOCADOS! Going to have to figure out what to do with the pizza leftovers. Thinking I'll bag it and freeze it with two pieces each to stay out of trouble. Air fryer is the best for reheating - even better than a hot frying pan.

Finally got my hair cut yesterday, left it pretty long, bangs are history. I joked about finally having enough length for Charlie's Angels hair, and no kidding, I think that's kinda what she did with the long layers, but I'm not a stylist and I just put it up in a ponytail most days, so we'll see how that works out. I washed it at home (my paranoid choice, didn't want her standing over me), wore a serious mask and safety goggles and they aren't allowed to blow dry yet. Completely unsatisfying, but my hair feels better. In the meantime, my friend is telling me (again) how her stylist has been cutting her hair through this whole thing, doing coloring and using the blow dryer. Pisses me off. She can and should lose her license. I don't know who she is so not up to me. She's also a Deva curl fanatic, so there's a weird non-science undercurrent in all our hair discussions. I've had curly hair all my life, don't yell at me about how to deal with my curls. They want to suck me in, I'll shave my head first. Wow, no idea where all that came from.

They told us at work that using Teams is going to require we participate in video telecons going forward. Welcome to 2020, employer who shall not be named, but it also means that I'm going to have to rearrange my office space and possibly paint. I don't mind working in a converted garage, but I don't necessarily want to share that "rustic" office appearance with my customers as I think it could undermine me in some situations. Annoying that I even have to consider these things, but at least I'm doing it proactively. Also going to put a huge damper on working in my swimsuit in the summer when I jump in and out of the pool to cool off. Or I could just answer the call wearing my full outfit of cap, goggles and pink snorkel a few times. I can imagine that call from my boss. Onward we go, happy Saturday!

I read it and enjoyed it! And I get the rustic office look. I always go in for zoom meetings so I don't have to try to pick a spot at home and worry about the dog barking or decor. :)

Read it too Kat. I will say, if not for the next 18 months - might be the way of our entire future - Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Hangouts/Meets - I’ve been doing it for years. I do agree with you on the hair stylist losing her license - did they do that at someone’s house or ??

I do totally read it friend 🤗 I’m glad you got you hair done and kept it long too🤗♥️ I would have also been pissed about that! A big salon around here “ closed” but they still saw their highest paying tippers through appointments as they all collected unemployment and got the grant. For shame. I want to see your hair friend ☺️💜💚

The irony of Teams is that long before I even moved out here, I was on the team setting up video telecons when Mac first did what became FaceTime over (wired) ethernet, so it's not new to me, but it just doesn't fit my current lifestyle of laid back casual office nonchalance. I'm not buying a ring light either. The errant haircutter was doing everything in salon as I understand it. One client at a time, supposedly, but the whole point is that she's definitely not an epidemiologist and even leading scientists didn't (and still don't)have all the answers. Just makes me mad. People with those types of behaviors are exactly why we are where we are right now. Selfish and sloppy. Moved mom into the condo this morning/afternoon, didn't stop for lunch, ate a banana and some mini Kit Kat bars, all logged. Just had pizza and spinach salad for dinner. Going for a long walk now. Might swim after, haven't decided yet.

Oh, I just had the best idea for video meetings. I have a Halloween projector thing in the basement. I'll throw up a shower curtain and project a zombie apocalypse behind me and not say a single word. 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️

Love that Halloween idea. I’m always down for zombie apocalypse 😁

Rather than painting you could hang a piece of green cloth and use the Cantina in Star Wars as your backdrop if you use zoom.😸. Personally I keep a piece of scotch tape over the camera and when people tell me it's blurry I lean in and pretend to clean it. *** Special note... I do not work with external clients 😊
