chrisw77's Journal, 13 April 2020

Captain's log: Monday, 13 April, in the year of our Lord, 2020...

It's now been one month since I'd last been into a gym and touched a barbell.

Although scale weight has been very stable and losses/gains predictable, muscle atrophy is slowly setting in.

I glance in the mirror and I appear mostly "normal", but with a bit of a longer gaze, I see my shoulders losing girth and ribs only fractionally covered. The lack of heavy lifting is taking its toll.

However, I am not disheartened. If this is my biggest problem at this time, who am I to complain? I have my job. I have great health. I have a loving family... there are many who cannot say the same at this point.

As much as I love the gym and long for a day when I can reenter those doors to the bittersweet torture chamber, I have rediscovered other passions and am getting along well.

Heretofore, I am gradually increasing my calories to compliment the new at-home program which is to, now, include running of all things!

10% more calories than maintenance levels, continued lighter lifting to failure, weighed calisthenics, and running with a 53-pound vest for short intervals three days a week... let's see where this leg of the journey leads.
153.5 lb Lost so far: 4.5 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Yes, I found some dumbbells on Ebay and likely paid too much but I have them and can mix and match the weights (hold two in one hand) to do what I need to try to maintain something!

I look in the mirror everyday before, during and after coronoa virus and ask myself who I am. You can either have a body image of what you see as perfection or in the words of neil diamond have a heart of gold.

I worry about you on those buses. Do you have access to N95 masks on the job?

Chris- it is all about a healthy life attitude balance. I balance my personal health in balance to what is important. Being able to sustain a healthy weight and lifestyle with higher objectives and how I spend my daily minutes, hours, and purpose. Being healthy not only benefits me but others in my life. People need to find a balance in life and what their goals are for what is important. I also dedicated my work career to a public purpose and spent 20 years in higher education. Your dedication to public service is admirable. Focus on your mission and purpose in life and everything else falls into place. Stay safe and protect the lives of others.

I'm with the "bonelessmushroom"... Both figuratively and literally, since she recently supplied me with fabric for masks I'm making! Change is life for sure. ❤️ I'm glad they are keeping passengers at a distance. Keep safe, man! 😁
