Fritzy 22's Journal, 18 March 2020

I did okay all day and then had a snack in the middle of the night (which is about 9:30 for me!).

Went and got an allergy shot yesterday. Only 2 people in the waiting room and we sat far apart. The receptionists were answering phone call after phone call saying "it's up to you if you want to come in for a shot. The doctor doesn't see sick patients so no one has a fever". Calls like that. I had called before I went just to make sure they were open. I figure it will be a matter of time before they cut their hours. Got shot #5 in a series of 12 shots that I can get once or twice a week. Have to skip at least a day between shots and they are only there Tuesday-Thursday. I will probably not get through all 12 shots. But I feel so bad during allergy season which is just starting here.

There was not much traffic, about 1/3 of a normal weekday. And SNOW! It doesn't snow where I live about 15 miles away. I guess it's about 1000 foot elevation climb to get to town.

They have started drive up testing for the coronavirus at the local hospital so we will probably soon have an idea of how many people in the area actually have the virus. So far there is only one positive case.

Staying home today and probably cancelling the appointment to get the car worked on tomorrow. If they didn't need the car for 4 hours I would probably have the work done. As soon as things get back to normal I bet you won't be able to get appointments for all the things you cancel now.

Anything else you can do for the allergies? If your car is "critical" maybe you want it fixed.

Liv - I do everything else for allergies in addition to the shots. Take Zyrtec or sometimes Benadryl if things are really bad. I have 2 prescription nasal sprays and do the sinus rinses. After going outside I come in and change my clothes, shower and wash my hair. There is always so much pollen this time of year. Without the shots I'm miserable. I called and cancelled the car repair. The right front axle. Didn't know it needed repair, but apparently they put it on the list of things to do the last time I had it serviced. I won't be driving much and may reschedule soon. They said it would be 3 hours. I can't sit in the shop that long and there is nowhere to go in my little town. Just a hardware store and coffee shop, the vet hospital and Bobby's groomer.

I have allergies but nothing that severe... Maybe you can try some kind of mask during the worst time. Now obviously hard to find but maybe your health professionals can help. Yeah maybe that repair could wait. Hope you have a good day today. Maybe some rain will come an take away some pollen

I was wondering how clinics were handling the patient load.

I have allergies too, most of them are seasonal but the one I hate the most is that I am allergic to Tylenol! That one is the most recommended of all the pain killers. The nsaids are very bad for your kidneys, plus they thin your blood, not good for a person already on blood thinners.

Thanks Liv. I am okay if I stay inside. I have some masks I use for yard work. But I just hired a new yard care service so I am hoping I can avoid yard work. Once I did weed whacking after having an allergy shot and broke out in hives. So I know to pretty much stay inside after a shot. I had an air purification filter put in when I had a new A/C and furnace installed (that's why my air filters are over $100!) and if I keep the windows closed and the fan running I should be good. Bella - it really makes you think about when and if you really need to go to the doctor. Allergists are necessary -lots of people suffer with asthma and other problems. But I do wonder if they will cut their hours after seeing so few people in the waiting room yesterday. Diehard - Tylenol is the best pain reliever for me. Doesn't help with allergies. I thought you need aspirin for a fever though. So I bought some Bayer aspirin just in case I get a fever. I thought that aspirin can cause ulcers and Tylenol can cause liver problems. But I think that's if you take them all the time.

When I called my hematologist office to move my appt (don't want to give cancer patients anything should I have anything) they were already calling non-essential appts to reschedule. I'm glad they are looking after them.

Tatauu - things are changing on a daily basis. I got a call that my appointment in April to get my taxes has been cancelled. AARP comes to my community every year and does them for free. So will have to figure that out. Just got an email from the gym that they have closed until further notice and are suspending billing. That's nice, because they automatically charge my Visa every month and I had been thinking of asking them if they could just put it on hold.
