59Carol's Journal, 09 March 2020

If I needed reminding just how 'bad' it can be in a short time, I am reminded now. I gained 8 pounds from the weight that I was on Thursday morning and the weight I am this morning. There is absolutely no mystery how it happened although I had hoped in my little girl make believe world that the damage would not be this bad!!

Takeaways... I did not travel with my computer or my scale. In the last while I have left the scale at home and just took the computer and generally had modest gains. It was the logging in daily what I had eaten and tracking the overall numbers that kept things down to a dull roar. The daily accounting is so much better than facing the music 4 days later.

I was tempted to not log in today -- but decided that I would own what happened and then go back at it again. I hope that the weight will come off fairly easily as I return to my normal habits however with a gain this dramatic I may be working a few weeks to get back to where I was.

I was gone to see the Anne of Green Gables Ballet with my granddaughter and her cousin. What fun! I have never attended a ballet before and I really enjoyed the whimsical performance. It really helped that I and my granddaughter were so familiar with the story. We had to bring her cousin up to speed and I think it detracted a bit from his experience. However both kids (age 13 and 15) really enjoyed the experience. As a group we ate highly eclectic foods much that we were unfamiliar with but found for the most part that everything was delicious. It was fun to watch the kids, especially the cousin, embrace the unusual.

I seem to gain fitness by inches and lose fitness by yards! It’s not a mystery to me when the scale shows bad news to me. You can do this! Keep going!

I truly appreciate all your words of encouragement. I brought it down a pound this morning however I did eat caramel candies last night. Tonight is a big family supper that includes ham so there will be salt....! I will drink my water and eat within reason but enjoy the meal I am preparing. It is comfort food in honour of my husband's birthday. Emotions will be running high so comfort food seemed the best plan on this first year since he died.

So sorry you had to come home to such a discouraging number on the scale. What a week of ups and downs!Sounds like you had a fun time in Edmonton. Hope the new food tastes were an interesting experience, as well as the ballet. I'm sure you will see a quick weight loss at the end of the week. It's all about slow and steady right? see you tomorrow at the pool.

It has been an emotionally hard week. We had a wonderful time doing the Euchre tournament. The first winners were my daughter and her fellow and the runners up were my 89 year old father-in-law and my 12 year old grandson. (Those two were quite the pair as my grandson was learning the game and my father-in-law is an old pro!) In the end it was a close game of 9 points to 9 points (10 points is the win) so it was down to the wire. Eating has been tough - ham is high in salt and deliciousness so having that for two days in a row is not making the scale all that happy. One year ago today my husband died so it is another emotionally charged day. Generally, I plan to rock and roll to the end of the week the best I can and pick up the weight loss at that time. Trying not to go crazy on the eating in the meantime but not holding myself to a rigid standard either.
