59Carol's Journal, 29 February 2020

This week I have gained 1.2 pounds. I found this a really hard thing to write down not so much that it is a gain but that I was flummoxed as to why it was a gain. I started off with feeling that it should actually have been a half pound loss for the week.

I spent some time with the data and what I saw is this. I basically fluctuated at a plus or minus one pound. That was encouraging as it wasn't huge swings one way or the other. Too bad the week ended on the swing up. I was under last week's weight until yesterday and today. So I asked myself what was different about those two days. The only thing I could see is that I spent those two days pretty much chained to my desk doing taxes and other computer work. I don't usually spend quite so much time sitting as I have the last two days. Finally the average calories over the week was 15 calories over the high end. Not terrible and certainly not a 1.2 pound gain.

My takeaway? Stay the course and likely there will be a course correction. If I stay the course and there isn't a course correction I will need to examine more closely what I am doing starting with scrutinizing whether I have allowed sloppy calorie counting to occur. This means optimistically measuring my food (counting a half cup that is maybe actually a 3/4 cup...) or not counting some licks, snicks and bites!

Now for life and not just weight stuff! The family and I went to an amateur musical last Saturday. We had a wonderful time. We had a sushi meal beforehand where many stories and laughs were shared. My 15 year old granddaughter is honing her dry wit and is quite hilarious. My sister's friend told many stories out of school on my sister which pleased my granddaughter to no end. The friend promised stories on my daughter (granddaughter's mom) another time. My granddaugher's cousin had never gone to a live performance before and he was captivated by the music and hilarity of the show. The main lead was played by a colleague of my sister's and is a friend of mine. He played 8 roles and had to die spectacularly in each one. It was so funny!

I spent the week hanging pictures and otherwise reclaiming my home. I had friends drop by for visits which is always wonderful. I now have two units out of 3 left to rent. One is ready now and the other not until April 1. I will be glad to have that done. I have my daughter on the Facebook world of advertising.

Sounds like a good week. As for the weight gain, I usually show a gain when I spend most of the day sitting with my feet down. I also find that I don't drink as much water when I'm deeply involved in a task. You're doing great, the drop will come!

Thank you Shirfleur. I do know my water consumption is good as I fill up all my water jars (7 of them!) the night before and have them all consumed by 4 pm! Yes, I am somewhat regimented. I am hoping the tied to the desk for two days is the main reason for the gain. I plan to pay attention to my portions and any extras I may eat to make sure that that isn't the cause. So far so good as of this day.

So many things can give temporary fluctuations. Don't fret the water. Just stay the course. :)

I know those darn fluctuations that always seem to hit on 'weigh in' day! I often remind myself that I can't gain all 75 pounds back in a day so breathe and get back at it. Trying to keep the big picture in mind when dealing with this issue. Thanks for your grounding comment.
