Fritzy 22's Journal, 24 February 2020

I last posted my weight over 10 days ago and had gained when I did that. I've had a rough time with my eating for at least 10 days. I think it started after my doctor appointment and the diet he wants me to follow if I don't want to have my gallbladder out. Low fat. I don't have much variety in my diet anyway and now I need to give up eggs and red meat. And maybe cut back on nuts and avocado and olive oil. So I rebelled. I've made tacos with the small amount of ground beef I had in the freezer (I gave everything else to my sister). I ate chips and French fries. And bought 2 big pieces of cake from the bakery department in the grocery store. I bought 3 2 liter bottles of regular Coke and drank all 3 bottles within 5 days. So not only have I had fat, but also sugar. So the weight is up 5.2 pounds in those 10 days. One good thing is I started going to the gym. 2 weeks now.
I've had no problems at all with gallbladder attacks in spite of the high fat items I've eaten. Not sure why.
So I've been gone and I'm in one of my dieting "moods" where I don't feel like logging my food and am tired of eating what I need to eat to lose weight and equally important, eat food that will help with my health issues - gallstones and inflammation. Feeling like a whiner. Hope I can kick this mood and get back on track. No more impulses purchases at the grocery store. No more Coke or Pepsi. Lots of water. And I need to get back to IF - stop eating by 3pm.

Hi Fritzy nice to see you. Glad you are here. My theory (unscientific) is that the body does not like fasts. I see that with people who fast as part of the keto diet ... body just want to get back to where it was before and does what it can. Maybe I am wrong. Happy to hear about that gym is working out and no gallstones. Nice.

What foods did you NOT eat in those ten days? Maybe some of those foods were the issue not just ‘all fat’. Just an idea

Thanks Jcmama and Shirfleur. Need to get my focus back. Liv - I don't do Keto but starting doing IF 2 years ago and it usually is fine for me. I've always eaten light in the evening, rarely having a big meal at the end of the day. But I don't know if I'll do IF once (if ever) I lose the weight. My initial intent was to do whatever it takes to lose a big chunk of the weight I need to lose and as I get closer to goal to figure out something that will work for losing the rest of the weight and for maintaining. I thought eating small portions of things I like to eat would be the way to go. Then the gallbladder attacks started so I don't really know what I'll do. Not sure why the gallbladder attacks stopped and worry they could start up again at any time. Peeperjj - I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. I was trying to not go crazy and only eat junk in those 10 days. I made brussels sprouts once, but had bought enough to have them 3 or 4 times. I never used the rest of them. There is also a grapefruit in the fridge I have been ignoring, not sure how long they stay good. And I even had to throw some raspberries out, I ate some, but not all of them. So what I wasn't eating enough of was vegetables and fruit and I ate things I don't normally allow myself to eat.

I mean if you cut out red meat this past week and didn’t have troubles then maybe that was the issue. Since you didn’t eat a lot of fruit and veggies maybe that was the issue. It’s odd for you to have eaten fat and not had issues. Just thought your gallbladder issues might have been triggered by something you normally eat but cut out the last ten days ;).

I am right there with you! I do this a lot...I have an appointment and someone says I'm not going to get better until I lose the weight and I just snap...Dude...what's the magic number because I already lost 110 pounds...I feel like dog doo because I'm sick not because I'm fat! So then I go home and I "revenge eat"...not sure how it's punishing THEM though lol.

try to look at it as self sabotage when I do that it makes me reconsider my choices.

Fritzy I know you are not keto or anything close to it. I am keto and follow ketoer so I see what they do and experiment with. I was talking about your Daniel Fast. I think eating windows work fine. I like IF myself. Sorry for not being clear

Peeperjj - Yeah, I guess I just didn't know what you were getting about. Thought it was just about why I suddenly went crazy with eating bad things. I don't understand the gallbladder issues and the 2 doctors and the surgeon I've seen just confuse me. When I had the same problem 6 or 7 years ago, I had a couple of attacks and then never again for all those years. Now it happened again after Thanksgiving and it made sense to me it happened after eating lots of red meat and processed meat in a period of 2 weeks. I eat red meat maybe a couple times a month and avoid processed meat all the time (unless I eat breakfast out). The surgeon told me the gallstones that are in my gallbladder would be the same ones that caused problems 6 years ago, but my doctor told me the reason the pain stops is because the stones have moved out of the gallbladder and through the duct. Both make sense. Still thinking about seeing a specialist. I've read that most people with gallstones never have any symptoms so it makes me wonder if the gallstones actually caused the pain. I over think everything. Katie - I understand what you are saying. Don't know why I have such a contrary reaction when I'm told I need to do something. Even knowing that eating high fat food could cause almost unbearable pain. My doctor is good about letting me know that getting down to a normal weight will make me feel better, both with inflammation and gallbladder pain. He stresses the important of diet, weight and exercise for me to get healthy. Still, it's hard to do things, even when you know exactly what you need to do. Little Red - the journal before this I explained what I was doing as self sabotage! It's easy to recognize. Liv - I really forgot all about the Daniel Fast! Funny how quickly I moved on from a really healthy eating experience! Don't know why it was called a fast, I got to eat all the "plants" I want. I appreciate all the input. It's helpful when I'm in the mode where I am not being helpful to myself. The only good thing I am doing now is going to the gym 3 times a week. I've can really see how weak and out of shape I am when I use the different weight machines. Everyone puts the weights at 100 pounds or so and I can barely do more than 20 on most of them. I thought my biggest problem was muscle weakness in my legs, but I have a harder time with the weights for my arms and shoulders/back. My forearms have no strength at all!

🥺 hope you get back on the track you feel comfortable on.

Fritzy, try not to stress out about your situation. Listen to your doctors and follow their advice. Diet, weight and exercise is what we all need to get and stay healthy. All doctors are concerned about those things. I'm glad you joined a gym. Don't worry about what everyone is doing and lifting. Keep doing what is best for you and over time you will be doing it better. Be safe and take your time to make wise choices...

I agree with John... no stress, you are doing well

Do not listen to people who tell you to reduce fat. No fat is fatal for human and particularly female body. Aim for at least 40 grams at most 60 g of healthy fat per day. Avocados, coconut oil, fish, lean red meat are all good healthy choices and you should laugh into the face of those who tell you otherwise.

Eggs are there in that list too btw.

I have no suggestion other than to log it whether you want to or not whether it's 1200 calories or 5000, I think it's important to keep track. That never stops me when I want to eat, but when I'm no longer feeling hungry and I regain composure, I like seeing the numbers and what my daily average is so I can track how much I need to be in a deficit and hit my goals. Just a thought. I've done that a million times. Best wishes! Glad you're back, BTW... I thought the stones had gotten the best of you. 😬💕

((Hugz)) - Yeah I completely understand how you are feeling and would have the same reaction. Logging everything while in these moods is the only thing that I have been able to do that I feel has eventually helped.

Oh, Fritzy! Hugs, girl! I think there are very few people here who have not made had times... Many times we ate what we shouldn't... Or in the amount we shouldn't. The key is you are here and accountable and trying. I'm so glad the gym is being used!!! That is terrific! You know it us just one day at a time! You can't go back but you can go forward. It is so hard and frustrating dealing with physical issues that are not making sense to you. I'm sorry... I dont have any answers, but you've got my support 100%. We are cheering for you!

Thanks everyone for your support! I guess I put several issues into my journal so I got confused with some of the responses. 1- I stopped following my WOE and just began eating what I wanted for about 10-12 days and I was feeling guilty about that and was trying to figure out how to get back on track when I get so bored with what I eat. 2- The gallbladder - it seemed that surgery to removed the gallbladder was inevitable, but for some reason I've had no problems after eating things that usually trigger the attacks. 3 - Just started going to the gym and so far I am enjoying it. I can't do as much as most of the people there but will keep going and trying. I do wonder how long I will be motivated for that 30 minute drive to the gym. Peeper - I didn't see your 2nd post that shows right after my answer post. We must have been typing at the same time. I pretty much know what has triggered all my "attacks" since I usually log my food. Red meat seems to be the biggest problem. And another attack happened after having butter (more than just a small pat). I think it's animal fat because I've never had problems after eating pastries, even though to lose weight I shouldn't eat them anyway. Thanks for taking the time to help me figure things out. Thanks Inderminio - I'm working on it! Thanks John, liv, Lonnie and DP - When I am not being good I stop logging. I know I shouldn't, but that's what happens. When I'm good, I'm very good and do everything right for the most part. When I'm bad, I don't even want to think about it. N2W - thanks for trying to help and be supportive. But for some people, fat is the enemy. And after having painful gallbladder attacks I need to avoid fat. When they asked me at the doctor's office about the pain I said it was a "10" on a scale of 1-10. After talking to several people who have had the same issues, they also said the pain was that bad. CelticPhoenix - thanks for the information. I have probably looked at the link you posted. I've done so much reading about gallstones and gallbladder and diets to follow. I have turmeric as a spice but don't like it. I bought the capsules too, but can't swallow them. I have a high level of inflammation that shows up in blood tests. Have had it for 4 or 5 years at least. My doctor said the gallstones may be part of the reason but that losing weight will help with the inflammation as well as gallbladder issues. I do track cholesterol in my food diary and try to stay under 100-200mg a day. One egg yolk has 200 so that's why I am currently avoiding eggs.
