Bianca Castafiore's Journal, 08 February 2020

I have been ashamed of posting my weight for a couple of months now.
I went on a cruise late December and when i came back first week of January, i weighed myself and i was up 2 kilos.
I was very ashamed, tried to convince myself it was water weight, etc...
But actually, i’ve put on some weight and i have totally ignored what my doctor told me about my high cholesterol.
If i don’t lose weight i will be on medication.
I have managed to stay away of alcohol for 17 days, but tonight i’ve had a couple of drinks. And i should mention that when i stopped alcohol, i replaced it with stweets...
I don’t know what to do
132.3 lb Lost so far: 14.6 lb.    Still to go: 13.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.3 lb a week

Keep on trying Bianca. I plan to keep off those cholesterol meds too by keeping my weight down and losing another twenty pounds. Like you, I gained five pounds on our recent trip to New Zealand and now I'm having to face the music. For that sweet fix you might try a few grapes, a clementine, some apple slices, blueberries or strawberries.

I'm on the cholesterol train too and you're doing great. Always think of where you came from and how much you've improved overall, and not just the bad week or two recently. You got this!

Try reading Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food. I found it a really great resource. Better than any diet really

Just for your information high cholesterol is not always based on the size(weight ) of a person. You can be at a healthy weight and still have high cholesterol.

Good point janen1. My husband is a decent weight but has stubbornly high cholesterol (LDL-the bad one) so is on a statin medication. We eat a healthy diet with lots of fruit, veggies, whole grains, porridge, fish, some red meat, kefir and yogurt, seeds and nuts, very little alcohol or sweet treats.

Alcohol is processed by sugar or by the fructose in the fruits so,it's natural that you would want something sugary. Don't give up because you went overboard on ine day, continue anew the next day.

I've had a ♡attack at age 37. An now almost 61. I was dancing 6 days a week for 4 hours a day and in better shape than I am today. I was a size 12-14, alas today I wear sizes 18-22. So, cholesterol is heriditary. I'm on Lipitor 20mgs for life. My heart scar tissue is healed. I plan to return to being size 14 and will gradually lose the weight. Don't be so hard on yourself... it's only human to slip up.

Stay strong. Everyone gains weight on cruises. It is about progress, not perfection. Celebrate the small wins. I gave up alcohol last year and found it easier when I replaced it with something. I started with tonic with lemon then switched to straight water as I did not like drinking my calories. Later I started drinking green tea with every meal. Find what works for you. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start anew.
