katies71's Journal, 06 February 2020

Trying to motivate myself. When I started here in April 2018 I weighed 333 pounds. I'm short 2 years by almost 3 months. I now weigh 226. I'm going to try to add pics...we'll see. I haven't successfully added pics...ever lol. But I'm down 107 pounds. That's only roughly 5 pounds per month, but I'll take it. I never thought that I'd weigh this little again. I still can't see it in the mirror but my therapist isn't sure that I ever will. She isn't being negative...she just knows me really well... I'm not planning on giving up but I have started to be a little more relaxed in terms of how much more I can realistically lose. The doctors have no idea what's wrong with me and we might not ever but if this is as good as it's going to get then I need to be smarter about what I'm doing. My problem is I don't stick with the things I try long enough. If it doesn't magically melt the pounds off...I give up on it. I'm too unhappy to keep going like that. I can't change what I went through but I can keep plugging away at liking myself enough to take care of myself! So...maybe the goal I can check off the list today is a shower...so what!?!? I can start again right now. I don't have to wait until Monday or even tomorrow...I can start again right now.

You have done great! I was getting frustrated after hitting a plateau and my inner voice told me "Don't worry about how long you've been doing this and don't worry about what you will eat tomorrow! Stay tuned in to today and do your best! Take one day at a time and before you know it, the weight will be off!" You can do it girl! You got this!

Start now, otherwise it sounds like you are rationalizing your next failure. I do the same thing.

What's really been working for me is intermittent fasting..several authors out there caught me eye..one lady Gin Stephens..lost 80 lbs and is keeping it off for 6 years...I am basically a thin woman but after my mom died 3 years ago I started on a popcorn binge and had not been able to put together my old program...have done well for the past 6 days ...6 hour eating window...there is another guy out there named Michael Moseley who uses and 800 fast program...I can do 800 calories a day..did it for years...

Good for you. I feel like I am reading my own story when I read yours. I have been on the same hamster wheel for years. It wasn't until November 2018 I boarded a flight & unable to fasten my seatbelt & was fat shamed by the airline attendant that I realized this is it. I can't & won't do this anymore. I started 24 hr fasting 3 days a week & it has worked. My 2020 new year's resolution is to do a 36 hour fast 1x per week + 2 - 24's. It is hard I won't deny that but I am currently down 50 lbs since November 2018. I feel amazing. I still hear that inner fat girl talking in my ear hourly, daily etc but I tell her to keep quiet & keep pushing thru. Remember you can do that too. Keep your head up & keep moving. Remember we have all been there.

5 pounds a month is respectable! They told me 1-2# a week is realistic and healthy. There are no quick fixes unfortunately. Have you found a WoE that you like? That’s the big thing. If you like it you can stick to it better. Have you ever been diagnosed with depression? The shower thing makes me ask. Sometimes, with depression anyway, it’s so hard to do the little things. Feel free to message me if you need to talk! Just let me know here as I don’t check messages often it less I’m expecting one :). You e got this!

I'd like to recommend intermittent fasting for you. See Dr. Jason Fung on youtube. He is not just a quack - real doctor with real results. He wrote a few books - Guide to Intermittent Fasting, Obesity Code, Diabetic Code. Congratulations on your weight loss. I started a little higher than you. I would love to lose 100 pounds like you!

Hi Katie - glad to see you posting again! I hope you will continue to do so. I've thought about you often, and have wondered how you've been doing. If you want a very vivid picture of just how much you have ALREADY lost, next time you go to the grocery store, try picking up TWO (not one, but TWO) 50-pound bags of dog food! That's how much heavier you used to be! Imagine how much harder it was to get around carrying all that weight! Yes, you've still got weight to lose, but you have a victorious track record, and (if you avail yourself to it) you've got lots of supportive friends on here to encourage you along the way. Don't focus so much on the BIG picture of how much MORE you want to lose - "just do the next right thing." Just make ONE right decision at a time. Hang in there, cousin Kate!!!

I know how hard it is to stick with all of the sacrifices and dedication it takes to lose weight. I have a metabolism that want to be where it thinks my body should be so after 20 or 30 pounds it is a real fight to stay the course and persevere. I have gained weight on 500 calories a day! So, congratulations on your tremendous success! And 5 pounds a month is awsome!
