Day 1 of a planned 3 days of eating

When I analyze my data on https://fatsecret.azurewebsites.net/ (a free website that I created that allows anyone to analyze their Fat Secret data in Microsoft Power BI), I see that my recent losses had sustained periods of low carbs and protein.

The net calories (the green graph) was also lower, but, not enough to explain the difference between the period where I was gaining weight vs. losing weight. That green chart shows that the majority of the time I have a calorie deficit, so I should not be gaining weight at all 😆.

However, it is the amount of my carbs and protein that directly correlates to my weight gain or loss.
176.0 lb Lost so far: 31.0 lb.    Still to go: 12.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I heard about your program to drill down on the data. Love nerding out sometimes on that. Will check it out.

@newnormal - The main reason I developed the site is to look at my net calories (calories eaten minus exercise) against my daily weight. There is no way to do that on the Fat Secret website :)

I lose when I go low carbs these days but it is just water than comes back when I go up again. But you are catching a trend? I am keto so obviously I believe in the wisdom of low carbing as a healthy sustainable lifestyle.

I find I’m the same. I can be in a deficit but on higher carb days I really hold on to the water.

You're doing well Adef and you're doing what works for you, good to share! I never worried about macros although I have looked into it at times. There is a huge business in protein supplement sales and I haven't bought into it, I get my nutrients from food. In May 2019 I started doing pullups, chin-ups and neutral pull ups with the help of an elastic band. I felt like a failure as I still can't do 10 unassisted but I don't really care anymore. I do this without extra proteins. In November I looked at my back and I could not believe the muscles on my back, I didn't expect it. I know I can build muscles without worrying about proteins and that is the way I like it.

@liv001, @jcmama777 - Today will be one of those days where I will have high carbs yet probably still have a calorie deficit because I plan to run. I am not sure if I will gain or not because I am currently holding onto water weight from the higher carbs yesterday...

I followed your link. You have done a lot of work and you have shared it for free !

I had no idea about the PowerBI. Amazing tool.

I'm glad this is working for you, I could never do it. I just eat about 1500-1600 calories a day, whatever I happen to be hungry for, and that works for me, thank goodness. I love this site, where so many different people find success with so many different WOEs. Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately data downloaded for FS are only since Jan 2018.

I’m not sure how scientific you can be when looking at daily macros and the direct correlation to daily weight. Do you have correlation values for that? Also, it appears that when you eat low protein and carbs, your calorie count is very low. I think that may have more to do with your weight loss. Last thing, I’d bet that your calories burned are not accurate if you’re not losing weight. I know my calories burned is off by about 500 calories because I only lose weight when I have about a 1000 calorie deficit with what is entered in FS.

@Tassos67 - Thats because if I try to pull too much data the program will hang :(

@love2educate - We will have to agree to disagree. The data is in the chart. To say that my conclusions are wrong because I can't calculate my calories accurately means there is nothing further to discuss.

If anyone wants to use this tool properly then daily FS weight logging is a must.

Thank you for the download app and for showing another way to handle data through PowerBI.

How would you know if the data is accurate unless you compare it to weight loss? You can’t consume energy and not have weight loss if you are burning that food energy off and then some. What narrative are you trying to report? That low carb and protein provides weight loss? That not a novel idea. Especially when your calorie counts are so low on those days too. Could be carbs or protein only and you’d lose weight, yes?

@love2educate - The data is in the chart.
